Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a 10 yr old Maytag which seems on the surface to be working fine. However I have noticed that when I take the clothes out they are all twisted and wrung around themselves and consequently bye the time I get them untwisted they are full of wrinkles. It sounds like a strange problem but it is to the point I cannot hang dry any of my clothes because they are full of massive wrinkles! What could be causeing this?? It has nothing to do with useing fabric softener because I use a downy ball in the wash.

I would make sure your agitator is tight. On top of the agitator is a cap that usually screws down make sure it is on tight. Sometimes there is a screw under it as well. If the agitator is loose it can cause the clotheing to tangle on a spin cycle.

Do the cloths seem like they are more than just damp when you take them out? At that age it may be in need of a new drive belt as the machine ages the belt stretches. You might also try washing smaller loads. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Spin doesn't seem to work - clothes are dripping

Sounds like the belt is slipping. I would check that first. You don't say what model, or how old it is.

Old Maytag a207 seems to run well, but gives poor rince.

Change out the pump belt and drive belt underneath the washer.
Remove the center filter from the agitator and clean it. It will twist out and pull up.

Black mark on clothes after washed in Maytag top load washer.

Check and make sure the seal at the bottom of the washer is not wore out. Alot of times you will get grease from the bearins and drum assembly if this wears out.

Maytag Neptune MAH5500B

only 2 or 3 real problems with this machine, bad machine controller( behind console) although lights on are sign that its good,
Either the pump is clogged and not draining water so it will never spin let alone spin full speed with water in tub, i also doubt that because it seems that s there just water within the clothes and not a tank full of water,
which leaves the last Major issue with machine and that's the motor controller, not telling the motor to spin.. could also be a bad motor but i really doubt that all....

This is a funny machine because depending on when it was made (serail number denotes its age) im looking up the model and your manual states that you have a 3rd yr to 10 yr part warr on the motor, Well on earlier models you cant replace the motor itself it comes as part of a kit, "NEPTUNE REPAIR KIT" which also includes the motor control board. reason i mention that is I"m able to get a motor controller covered by warr(as an authorized maytag technician) if the model will take the neptune repair kit, sure youll need to pay service and labor but the a part would be covered.

Leaking, not found in owners manual

If it leaks during drain or spin cycle, it means that your exit hose has come loose or has a break. This can be replaced easily.............

Washing machine problem

Sounds like the upper bearing located in the outer tub seal is bad. It takes very little play at this bearing to cause what you are describing.

b739f41.gifThe area of this picture you are interested in is the top left. This is the tub seal assy.
