Tip & How-To about RIM BlackBerry? Tour 9630 Smartphone

BlackBerry Tour: How to change app permissions

Every app that you install on your BlackBerry Tour has a set of permissions that tell it what functions or information it can or can't access. For personal, business, or security reasons, you may at some point want to modify your apps' permissions. Below is the procedure for changing app permissions on a BlackBerry Tour.

From the main screen, press the BlackBerry button (to the left of the trackball) to bring up the Home folder. Scroll down to Options (the wrench icon) and select it. From the Options menu, select Applications.

On the Applications screen, you can view three different categories of apps: Third Party, Add-ons, and Core apps. Select the type of app that you want to modify, and all of the apps of that type will appear in a list.

From the list, scroll down to the app that you're looking for and highlight it, then click the BlackBerry button. Select Edit Permissions, and you'll see a list of all of the permission categories for that app and what they are currently set to. You can modify any of the individual permissions however you want; for example, you could allow USB connections for a specific app while denying Bluetooth connections.

Be aware when modifying app permissions that certain apps will require certain permissions to function. For example, a GPS program probably won't be able to function if you deny it the permission for Location Data. Some core apps -- like BlackBerry Messenger -- won't even allow you to edit their permissions.

Your BlackBerry has a default permissions configuration that it applies to new apps, and you can modify this default permission list as well. To change default permissions, click the BlackBerry button from inside an app's permissions and choose Edit Defaults, or click the BlackBerry button when in the prior Applications screen and select Edit Default Permissions.

Android 4.1.2 install down loaded apps

Drag your index finger starting up at the top of your screen....down....lightly....until you see your recent activities....look for the down loaded app......tap it to get a menu pop up.....choose open or install....it will start the install and tell you when it is done....you may want to monitor the install to make settings as it is installing. To avoid installing in a way that might use more battery or memory than you would like. Each app will usually ask your permission to have access to a number of other apps and your directory of people and their information too.....install wisely. Free apps are free of monetary charge, but usually make their money from information that you allow them to access and exploit...information from your phone......good luck and have fun...

I was downloading an update to my color id app and my Blackberry Tour was rebooting when my screen froze when the app was asking permission to access phone info. Now my screen is frozen and I can't get it to go away even with a hard reset.

I had the same problem and went searching online for a solution. You need to start your blackberry on safe mode and uninstall the application.

To boot up your BlackBerry Tour in Safe Mode, perform the following steps:
1. Take the battery out of the device.
2. Place the battery back in the device.
3. While restarting, press and hold the Escape key (the one with the arrow).
4. A screen will appear telling you that you are in Safe Mode. Select OK and troubleshoot the issue.

There are different versions of how long you have to hold the Escape key while the phone is restarting, so I just held it through the whole boot up time. It took a few minutes, but it's worth it.
