Question about Astar LTV-3201 32 in. LCD Television

My power supply started smoking and appears to have spit out some dark liquid

I am wondering if there is a comman capicitor or something that goes wrong with the power supply on an Astar LTV-3001. The fuse on the power supply is fine, but there was some dark liquid that was obviously ejected from something on the power supply board and started to smoke. Can I just fine a new power supply module for it? Thank you very much.

This is the second time my Astar unit has done this. I think its a lil over 3 years old. I was'nt home the first time and my daughter freaked and turned it off. It has worked fine the last 4-5 months since that incident. then tonight I turned it on to put a movie on for my youngest. Suddenly the screen froze up and smoke started coming from the top of the unit. Smelled of burned plastic. :( I havent tested i agaion yet. Letting it cool down and see what happens in a little bit.

The failures on these LCD's are due to defective capacitors in the power supply. There are about 23 capacitors that will need to be replaced to restore the LCD power supply functionality. Check the picture to see where the capacitors are located, the power supply on your LCD is not the same but similar to the one on the picture just the capacitors are place in a different order.
Let me know if you required further assistance.

18 month old LG 43" LED TV. Screen goes dark, but can be seen if you hold a flashlight up to screen. Sound is fine.

The inverter supplies the voltage to activate the screen. There are usually 2 boards, a slave and a main board. Sounds like one of them is leaking voltage and causing the screen to go dark after the initial start up. Make sure you didn't joggle something loose while you were replacing the power board check all connections. GL

Sony Kdl 70r520a is stuck in loop on start up. Sony logo appears then the screen goes dark, then repeats this cycle.

Go to because a bad capacitor on the powder supply board will cause this. There can be other reasons, but all involve taking that Sony apart.

Screen goes black a few seconds after start up.

The most common cause of Failure in this unit is power supply failure caused by failed capacitors. A visual inspection is The easiest way to identify and confirm bad capicitors on the power supply. Such a capacitor will show one or more of these symptoms: 1) Bulging of the vent on the top of the capacitor. (The 'vent' is the impression stamped in the top of the can. The impression forms the seams of the vent. It is designed so that if the capacitor becomes pressurized it will split at the seams relieving the pressure rather than making it explode.) 2) Sitting crooked on the circuit board as the bottom rubber plug is pushed out. 3) Electrolyte (a crusty brown substance) leaked onto the board from the base of the capacitor 4) Venting from the top of the capacitor, visible as rust-like brown deposits, or a visible hole in the vent Once the power supply is repaired or replaced your tv should work normally

I would start with the power supply. Possibly a fuse. 9 times out of ten though if a fuse goes, something inside the set is causing the fuse to blow.

Won't power up

MY TV died over a year ago and for some strange reason I never got rid of it. I recently (today) replaced two capacitors and it works great again! It wasn't difficult to solder them on- and this was the first time I've touched a soldering iron. Open the back... you will see which capicitors are bad because they will be swollen. I ordered new capicitors online (Radio Shack didn't carry them). Just make sure that you solder them on in the right direction. The first time I tried the capicitor immediatley blew, the TV started smoking, and it left the room smelling of funk for a few hours.

I would suggest getting a schematic of the set and using a multimeter looking at the power supply test points to determine what is happening exactly with the power supply.
