Question about Hubbell Network splitter

Open Question

Splitter allows telepone or fax to work but not the credit card machine

Eight years ago, AT&T installed a hubbell splitter on my 2-line system with DSl. One modular outlet is line1&2 and the other is just a single line(line 2). Yesterday, my credit card maching (Omni 3200) stopped being able to communicate with the credit card processing center.
If I disconnect the line from the credit card machine and plug it into a telephone I can make and receive calls. When I reconnect the line to the credit card machine, it is unable to communicate with the processing center. If I then disconnet this same line from the modular outlet and plug it into a modular outlet in another office, then the credit card machine can communicate with the processing center.
Basically both outlets in both offices allows telephone calls to be made but only the outlet in the "other' office allows the credit card machine to work. Any ideas?

    With a normal telephone plugged into both modular outlets (where the credit card machine is plugged into) is the line any noisier with respect to one another? Is this splitter you're referrring to actually a DSL filter/splitter?

SOURCE: i bought a hubbell hbl 1386 3 way switch. 2 pole.

What are you using the three way switch to control? A light? Or the socket outlet you are talking about? A three way switch is used in conjunction with another 3 way switch to allow you to turn something on and off from two different locations. If you are only controlling the outlet, then you only need a two way switch. In either case, the white wire, which should be the neutral wire (but don't count on it without testing), does not get fastened to any switch terminals. A switch is used to break the hot (black) side of a circuit. A three way switch used in conjunction with another three way switch also breaks only the hot (black) side of the circuit, but it does it in two different configurations for the two different switch positions.

Why does my credit card machine give me a message of Please Try Again -CE?

CE is the error message it means COMMUNICATION ERROR
the machine is saying it cant communicate: meaning how is it connected to a phone line? you said you took off the splitter.
make sure the phone line is not faulty and is not too long of a cord and is not sharing with any device. the line you use to have on the splitter is it connected to a fax line > does it need a prefix (pabx code) to get an outside line : like a 9 to dial out?
try connecting the phone line from the machine directly to the phone jack and try to process a sale. good luck !

Why am I unable to send a fax?

Are you running ADSL on your fax phone line ? Will need an ADSL line Splitter with fax plugged into phone side of splitter. Could also be plugged into a PBX extension then you need to convert analogue to digital for PBX.

Drops call when placed on hold

You may have other equipment that is on the line that is interfering with the hold signaling.

If you have DSL on a line make sure you have filters in that line before it goes to the phone. I suggest that you have the filter in the line before any splitter. You may also have a bad filter, swap it out and test.

Also, remove any other equipment that may be on the line, fax credit card machine etc. These other devices may also interfere with the hold signal.

And if you have a music on hold machine attached to the system it may not be working correctly. Remove it from the lines and check.

If you want to use the FAX - use the dedicated line to the FAX Machine..

Hi check the following steps
Problems with sending and receiving FAX

Check the TELEPHONE LINE

Make sure that you have plugged the phone cord directly and securely into the wall jack and into the back port of the fax product. The fax port on your product is marked "Line," "To Wall Jack," or with a wall jack symbol.

Check LIU

Make sure the Line Interface Unit (box that the phone cord plugs into) is fully seated into the back of the fax product.

Remove the SPLITTER

Remove any other devices from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines.

Can try sending the Fax on Another Line

There are a number of reasons for this. The basic ones are:
1. You are using a splitter to split the line between your fax and the wall outlet. These are NOT supported.
2. You may be using a phone line (RJ11) cable that DID NOT come with the machine.

These two reasons are probably the most significant reasons why the fax will not receive.
Here is the link http://is.gd/1jC8H to the HP page for all things 3055. You should read the back of the manual for troubleshooting "Not receiving faxes"

Start with a fresh phone line, no splitter, directly into the wall outlet. If you can trace the wall outlet to another splitter in your basement or elsewhere in the house, then that is STILL considered a splitter, and is unsupported.

Connecting Linksys wrtu54g wireless router with Linksys SPA 2102

If you want to receive "incoming" telephone-calls:

ADSL modem <---> Linksys SPA <---> wrtu54g <---> wired computer

and Linksys SPA <--- telephone-line-1 --> telephone hand-set
and Linksys SPA <--- telephone-line-2 --> FAX machine

or Linksys SPA <-- telephone-line-1 --> mechanical telephone-splitter
with telephone-splitter --> hand-set
with telephone-splitter --> FAX

Telephone line connection

Two options:

1) Pick up a phone line splitter (Radio Shack or just about any other retailer has them) that has a plug on one side and two jacks on the other. Plug this into the phone jack where the line to your computer is connected. Plug the cord to the computer back into one jack on the splitter and plug the line to the fax machine into the other jack. (If it will physically fit into the space on the back of the computer, you can just plug the splitter into the modem connector, plug the line cord into one jack and the fax cord into the other.)

2) (Useful if the phone jack is behind furniture or just hard to get at.) Get a phone line splitter with all jacks (two on one side, on on the other). Unplug the line cord from the computer and plug it into the single jack on one side of the splitter. Then run a new line cord from one of the two jacks on the other side back to your computer. Plug the cord to the fax machine into the other jack.

I can't receive and send fax

The splitter the technician is referring to goes on the wall jack. One should have come with the "modem" installation package.
Take a regular telephone cord and plug one end into the splitter and the other into the line jack on the Fax/printer.
When your done you should have two phone cords connected to the splitter - one going to the "modem" and the other to the printer.
