Not usually. If the thunderstorm damaged it, there is most likely all kinds of burnt circuits. Most warranties don't cover that kind of damag either, unless it was plugged into a power strip of some kind that has a gaurrantee against damage.

Turned TV off at night. Next day went to turn TV on but it was completely dead. What happened?

If there was a power outage durring the night it is possible that the power supply or the TV mother board could be effected-- even if there was a thunderstorm.
So in this case you can also check to see if the fuse if blown as a protection or that the SMPS is damaged.
Please remove plug remove rear panel to get access to the circuit.
see the link for tips on SMPS repairs.

Picture went out during thunderstorm. Won't show

The television may be repairable most tv shops ask a $20 fee to look at and tell youyes or know as to how to get rid of it if you dont want to bother with it all take it to your local dump and pay $10 for correct disposal.
Honetly to me it sound like thepower board was hit and can be repaired,

Tv will not work

Thunderstorm will damaged the semiconductor such as signal diode, transistor, and IC. Check any shorted component in power supply section. You need Multimeter and basic component testing procedure.

No picture (black screen); making popping/crackling sound

there is a possibility that the semiconductor in power supply side damaged due to electrical surge. more likely the STR IC of Diodes.

Had a severe thunderstorm yesterday (7/23/08). Lightening hit the transformer, all power was out for 6 hours. 3 Televisions. 1, hooked up to modem works fine, 1 hooked up to cable reciever only gets static...

Upon researching various websites regarding the Model Number for those 2 televisions that blew out, I found a few other people around the US that had the same problem with similar situations. All involving massive thunderstorm power-outages.

It appears that since out TV's are both 5-6 years old, they are worthless, both covered under homeowners but for almost nothing. It's not worth fixing. So, decided to purchase 2 more lower quality televisions as this will most likely happen again when the next storm hits. Thank god we found out that this is a repeat issue before we purchased a really expensive television.

Thank you!!!! Our power was off due to new transformers being installed in the area and we had no clue how to fix this. I called around and no one seemed to know the answer (not even Samsung, who only wanted to tell me my TWO year old tv was out of warranty),so I tried this and it worked perfectly!!! You saved me a bundle! Thanks!

The color just doesn't look right. However my provider just switched me over to fiber optic. My other tv seems to be okay, but they are on different lead-in cables in the house. Could the providers...

I fixed the set myself. All I did was unplug the power cord to the set overnight. It must have demagnetized itself! The color is perfect. I do remember that we had some thunderstorms in the area about the same time as my problem occured.
