Hi, I've had a series of issues with my Archos 5 (500 GB). Right now the main issue is getting it unstuck from the Recovery Screen. That would be the screen that pops up when you press the power button and the volume down button at the same time. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work...resetting, changing formats...nothing works. Please help. I do not wish to return this but I will if I don't get an answer soon. One tech has already told me to return it. I think he was just being lazy or just didn't know what to do. This should be able to be resolved. Thanks... Todd Dimmick

Help, my Archos A70h is stuck on recovery the white page, it won't boot, how can I get back to the home screen.

The issue may appear due to several reasons such as Windows Update or any recent hardware or software changes in the computer.

1. Please reset the BIOS to default values.

2. Try booting the computer to Windows in safe mode by pressing the F8 key at startup.
3. If the issue persists, please check if the hard drive is listed with its volume (size) eg: 500GB in the BIOS main menu. Press F2 key at startup to enter BIOS.
4. If the hard drive is listed, perform a system recovery using the recovery console/partition by pressing the F10 key at startup.

5. If issue persists, please use the recovery discs or contact the sony service team to get the computer repaired.
The issue may be related to the operating system files. Getting the recovery partition re-imaged will be the best possible resolution.

Make a search on ebay for Archos firmware issues somebody has a video for sale step by step showing how to fix it.

You can use system recovery option by following these steps
Press and hold the button to turn on your device.
When the screen turns on, immediately press and hold the Volume + button until the Recovery mode starts (white screen).
Since the system recovery mode is activated, the touchscreen is currently disabled. To move from an option to another, use the volume buttons. To validate an option, press the ON/OFF button.

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it These are the steps i followed
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc
* When the white screen comes up do format
* Wait until all done then put the firmware in to the root sector of the Archos
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug in back to pc
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving wait until it is all done and it will shut off. Turn it back on Your archos will be back to normal.
When you go to download from Archos site it will explain how to download depending upon how your device pops up on your Pc.

expierenced this problem it will go from this to not

turning on at all - you wont lose your data it wont format
mine just doe sent turn on

Before you hook up to usb go into tools/settings/storage & see if your archos is set for pc hard drive mode which turns the unit into a external hard drive. That should fix it,Make sure you have a copy of the latest firmware downloaded onto your desktop from the Archos website before you try formatting or recovery functions. if that doesn't you might have to do a repair or format. You can try these functions in Customer assistance function in the tools/settings/customer assistance, but I have much better luck doing a hard reset. Sometimes the unit gets a glitch in it & you have to do a hard reset.
Turn on the power when the Archos screen comes on which has the Archos logo on it Immediately hold down the volume + button until the recovery page comes up

i had same issue. nothing worked until i saw a guy who fixed his by dropping it on floor?
i dropped my archos in the protective case from 2 feet off floor. the bloody thing when came back to life, 100% good. i think the hard drive was stuck and the fall fixed it!! it cannot hurt as yours is broken still i guess. hope it works for you to

You _MIGHT_ be right, but first open your Archos and check for the loose HDD cable, as couple of guys had such issue.
