Question about D-Link ADSL2/2+ Modem/Wireless Router 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, QoS (DSL-2640B)

1 Answer

Adsl2+ i bought a wireless G ADSL2 + Router from D-Link. I followed the instructions for setting it up from the included CD. But i always get stuck when it asks me to connect wire to the phone splitter thingy. It said I should wait for the ADSL led to light up. I did, but still it says "socket is not ready!" Why is that? Is there maybe a difference with DSL and ADSL? is it beacuse I have a DSL connection and the wireless router that i boucht is fro ADSL?

Hello,
Access to the router using web interface and make sure that access point is enabled. You can reset it to factory settings by using a ballpoint or paperclip to gently push down the reset button in the following

sequence:

1. Press and hold the reset button while the device is powered off.

2. Turn on the power.
3. Wait for 5~7 seconds and then release the reset button.

You can use Router Commander for troubleshooting router problem also

I have just set up a D-Link DSL-2640R Wireless-G ADSL2+Modem Router to support 1x desk top PC & 1 x Laptop (wireless). Both work fine when used in the same room as the router but the Laptop quickly...

Check that your router is set to a channel that does not have a lot of traffic on it. If you are in an area where there are a lot of wireless networks, this can be very important for proper operation. The other possibility I can think of is that the antenna is faulty or there is some other interference in your building. You might also check that your router does not have a low power wireless transmit mode, not many do, but if it does, it's always possible that it's turned on.

Unable to install after 81 %

If the setup CD is unable to setup your modem/router (it is also called a "gateway") you can do the router configuration via the Web User Interface of the router. you will need ADSL settings such as:
a. Encapsulation mode. (typically PPPoA or PPPoE)
b. Multiplexing: (it can be LLC or VC)
c. Virtual Circuit Range.
d. Username & Password (ADSL UN/PW)

note: All of these ADSL settings should be provided/given to you by your ISP/ADSL provider. You can call your ISP for this settings.

just notify me if you will need further assistance doing this, but first make sure you have all the settings for ADSL.
