Hello :-) I am guessing that its your screen's problem of what is happening not the computer's. If you want to make sure that its the screens problem look down at your computers tower ( while this white screen problem occurs)  and see if the little orange/yellow light is solid ( that represents the processor ) . If the light is solid that means that it might be the computers problem. but if it isn't solid that means its the screens problem. I would recommend trying a older screen ( you or a friend might own ) and hook that up to your computer/tower if the screen doesn't do what you are describing in your problem that means that its the screen's problem and that you need to buy a new screen.

What you should try at this point is shut everything down, Unplug your desktop, hook it back up to tour moniter and boot. If you now get a picture, go to your device manger and click on display adaptors. If you have more than one selection. choose your monitor. Let me know if this works.

My computer will turn on go thru all the motions like it is working it says windowsxp then goes to welcome screen then goes to my screen it wont show any programs or the start

It seems the Explorer.exe is not running properly or isn't loading. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (when it shows nothing on the screen) on the keyboard, the Task Manger will pop up, click "File" and select "New Task (Run)" and type in "explorer.exe" (without quotes), wait for few seconds, it should open up all the features properly, if this fails, go into Safe Mode and try again. To go into Safe Mode, restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 button on the keyboard until you see the Advanced Boot Options with Safe Mode as one of the options. Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on the keyboard and press enter, you will see white texts in the black screen, wait until you see a warning to confirm whether you want to boot into Safe Mode or not, give a positive input and proceed forward, once windows is loaded, you better run a full system virus scan or I would also recommend System Restore.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My screen wont come on until about 2 hours after turned on, moniter is an acerAl1716B

Have you tried a general reset ? or unplugging it and plugging it back after a few minutes ?

Otherwise this sounds a lot like a power supply problem.

Problem with moniter

Techguru2009: You need to reset the bios to defaults and make sure all devices are connected before you turn your computer on. Make sure in the bios setup that the setting for the keyboard is usb support. If this does not work then you might have a faulty video card. Or you might need to reinstall the monitor in the operating system. If you are running windows operating system click on start button, administrative tools folder, select computer management. Alternative, click on the run command on the start menu and type compmgmt.msc. When the program starts click on device manager. On the right side of pane click on monitors. Find all monitors right click on each one and unistall all of them. When you restart your computer the operating system should recognize plug and play monitor and intall it automatically. I hope this method works for you.

Unfortunately your lcd screen is bad and needs to be replaced. Remove your screen, (don't forget to emove the battery first) get the number off of the back of the lcd and buy another one. Make sure THE NUMBERS MATCH, as close won't do. I see this problem about 2-3 times a month.
