Paper goes part way in, then crumples up and pulls to right..when I finally get the paper pulled out, I can see something has blocked the paper and was pulled around it. Can't get inside to fix it

same thing on mine. just out of the box and paper crumples up

same thing here. mine pulls to the right. while printing, it printed the first page then suddenly started making a loud noise as if something was blocking it and now pulls to the right every time....won't feed properly. Looked down there, and there is a piece of plastic on the right side that is not on the left, however, it appears to be attached and feels as if it is attached to a spring of some sort. No foreign objects have been dropped in there. This thing isn't even a year old. And do you think I can find my receipt??? Of course not. Not to mention, Comp USA, where I bought it, has gone out of business in my area.

Well, as it turned out, the piece of plastic that I saw crammed into the roller area WAS a foreign object that had apparently fallen inside there. I have no idea what the object was....have never seen it before. And the color of it was the same color as the white plastic paper feeders on the roller inside the unit, so I assumed it was a part of the unit.
I got especially upset with it one night before leaving on a trip when I realized I couldn't print out my boarding pass for my flight. So I removed the 2 screws from the back of the printer so I could get closer to the roller area and had to use some MacGyver tactics to get the stinking thing out of there. It is not "repairman friendly"....there is no easy access to the area where the roller is, and this plastic piece had been wedged down in there pretty tight.
Long story short, I got it out and the printer is working like a charm again. Thanks for your funny comment about shoving it in the garbage, Cozmo. I guess I will hold onto it for now. :-)

Paper is being pulled in on the right side and getting crumbled

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Paper jam

If it crumbles just before the exit, then the problem is with the fuser unit, there are 4-6 claws/teeth/scrapers that are supposed to help guide the paper out, when they wear out the catch the paper and turn them into accordions. Replace the claws, and check the heat rollers.

A paper jam error message will appear if the printhead is not correctly installed. Try removing and reinstalling the printhead again, but make sure it snaps into place. Try loading a sheet of plain paper and press at the same time copy+cancel; hold them down until the printer feeds the paper. The paper will go through the rollers and come out blank.

Different kind of paper jam....

Hello I have an x6170 when I go to print the paper is going in side ways, crumbling the paper. I did not do anything different from before. I tried taking it apart but I do not see any screws or if it is just snap in I would like to see the assembly manual so I can open it...maybe fixing it.
Please HELP
