    not making ice

  • michellesala Oct 13, 2008

our ice maker makes a knocking sound, and water is leaking behind the ice tray, and freezing on the back of the freezer, I assume that the water is leaking before it reaches the tray because our ice is also weird shapes and clumped together in the tray.

Check the back - ours was leaking in the back so water pressure did not reach the minimum for ice making

Pull it out and push it back at the right position, see if it is working.

Help! Our ice cubes are frozen but not dumping and our tray is filling up with water fitting a solid sheet of ice. Can anyone help? Thanks

My name is Peter. I am a retired field refrigeration technician.

It sounds like your ice maker has a bad motor module/circuit board.
It is like a control board. This module reads a temperature sensor that indicates the water is frozen and ready for harvesting the ice cubes. Then it turns on a electric heater under the ice cube mold, then turns on the motor to harvest the ice cubes. After the ice cubes are harvested, it opens the water supply solenoid valve to fill the mold with water. The ice maker needs to be replaced.

Samsung SRS2029CSS ice maker in side by side, won't drop the ice out of the tray. The ice stays in the tray and after turning back upright, the water dispenses again flooding the freezer. I've taken it...

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

There are three common problems with icemakers:

There's no ice
Small or too few ice cubes
Specks in the cubes

Have replaced everything and ice maker still doesnt work model ed5shaxmb10

An ice maker has 3 basic tasks:
1. Call for water.
2. Freeze.
3. Harvest.
Then the cycle repeats. There will always be some sensors that determine timing of those tasks. Home units usually have a bin level sensor (often an arm that's lifted as the bin fills) that can be locked in the up position to disable the ice maker.

If it's calling for water but not freezing, make sure the condenser is clean. (Sometimes they look clean but are plugged in the middle.) It has to get down to nearly 0 degrees to efficiently make ice, if it's not getting cold enough you may need a tech to figure out why.

If there's ice in the tray but it's not harvesting, clean the tray, hard water deposits can make the cubes stick in the tray.

No ice makeing

If the icemaker is getting water into the ice tray, then the easiest most cost effective thing to do is simply replace the ice making unit. You can get them for about 45 bucks new on ebay. If no water is getting into the ice tray then either the water flow to refrigerator is not present or the the water solenoid is not working. Check that out also.

Hoshizaki km500mae just has continuous water flow through it. The only time it shuts off is when it is harvesting ice. This water is causing a huge water bill. Any suggestions?

You have an assembly that closes the water down when it is harvest ice. It is broke or out of adjustment. Have a rep look at it.

GE bottom freezer ice maker not working

Remember there are two sides to a dual water control valve, the water to dispenser side and the side that feeds the ice maker. Replace the WR57X10094 Dual Water Control Valve and I think you will be good to go on ice, Thanks Sea Breeze

Auto ice tray module #s106 2198597 doesn't work

Food Grade Silicone spray applied to the pockets where the cubes are frozen will sometimes fix the issue with not harvesting. The motor is not strong enough to push the cubes out of the tray after the unit is a few years old. After sprayin the tray discard the first few loads of ice.

No ice

You will need to check if water is actually in the tray which would be ice if temperature is below 32 degrees. If you can feel ice then it is making ice but not harvesting it. you can advance the timer using a jumper wire. Pull the front cover off and make a 5" jumper with a 1/2" stripped on both ends. Place the jumper between T and U; They are located at right lower corner. Hold jumper in place as the gear begins to move you will hear a click, remove jumper and watch as the ice is harvested. Sometimes this will fix it. If it doesn't advance then you can just replace the head or the part inside.
