Blowing Convergence Amp Boards

Samsung HCN4727W blown convergence amp replaced (BP95-00142P). Worked for a few hours. Now tv is back to original problem, won't come on. Assuming new board has been blown as well. Ideas on which other component may be blowing the convergence amp board?

Are those DIY fixable? How would I get their part numbers?

  • jdtimi Jul 11, 2008

OK, reset! I put the original convergence amp board back in (don't ask
why...) and the TV works fine again, so far. So, it must not be the
convergence amp that's the problem. I'm sure it won't last. Whatever
was making the tv not come up hasn't been diagnosed (or fixed) yet, so
it should shut down again very soon. Any ideas what to look at next?

    Thanks for the continuing support!

Was running TV this morning to exercise it. While I wasn't looking, it
shut itself off. Power button and remote had no response. Unplugged
from wall, replugged. TV back up and working normally. There must be
something overheating or going out. Ideas?

Either the DCU Digital convergence Unit or the velocity board are most likely the fault.

Thats a convergence issue which is caused by the convergence amp board needing repair. The samsungs with the P55A chassis such as your model usually require replacing the convergence amp board which is a simple unplug old board and plug in the new one repair. You can get the convergence amp board for your model from www.tvcircuitboards.com

Samsung hcn4226wx/xaa red color out of focus

Ok first of all, the convergence board you are looking for is no longer available from Samsung, probably because of the large failure these boards are having. The only thing to do though would be to replace the convergence amp IC's on the convergence amp board. this will involve locating the convergence amp board, going to http://www.samsungparts.com, entering your model number, without the /xaa prefix. Locating the list of parts for this TV set, and getting the right convergence amp IC's for this TV set. The numbers for the convergence amps are STK-392-040. You will also need to get the service manual for this TV set to perform touchup convergence, as well as to realighn the magic focus into the memory of this TV set. If you have the ability to solder and unsolder, you should have no problem replacing thes convergence amp IC's. But i will have to say this, about 45% of these TV sets do still have a problem after the convergence IC's are replaced. this is usually due to the burnt ground return resustors on the convergence board, so be perpared to know how to read a scematic diagram in the service manual and to trouble shoot the board. There is no simple repair to this problem I'm afraid, with this Samsung TV set. But , if at any time, you feel lost in the repair of this set, do not continue, and call out a pro to assist you in the repair of this TV set. Good Luck with the repair of this TV set.

Is it hard to restore a Samsung HCN4727W tv back to it's factory setting after having replaced the convergence board? Can it be done myself or do I have ot tak eit somewhere? How expensive do you think it...

You want to re-align the convergence for this tv correct? It is not hard, you can do it yourself. You really need to get the service manual to do this. Use a good input source for the 480i input and maybe an xbox or blu-ray player to help with verifying alignment for the 1080i input.

Too much to explain here, so search on google for the service manual. You will likely need the original remote for the tv as I think a universal remote will not have all the button you need on it to complete the alignment.

Coloring is off and there is a ghosting effect

Hello,

Part # BP95-00142E is the correct convergence amp board for a model # HCN4226W. Part # BP94-00155A is listed as a "CG Amp assembly board" also, but is not correct for a model # HCN4226W. They are both basically convergence amp boards. Here's a link to order the original Samsung covergence amp board for this model (HCN4226W) from a major parts distributor:

HCN4727W with Convergence issues

Mike,
The ICZ designations on that board are two Sanyo STK392-040 amps used for convergence. Rz142 through Rz145 are the yoke return circuit are 3.9 ohm 1/2w resistors. CZ140 and 141 are two electrolytic radial 22mf/50v caps in the feed circuit for those amps.
My question would be - and I've NEVER seen this, in my 30 years in electronics, what caused such a domino failure? The amps are basically LV fed by a +/- 24v line input. If the yoke(s) were to short shouldn't cause enough feedback to destroy the convergence board in the manner you've indicated here. That's a P58A chassis used in several models of the Samsung and Akai designs. Only trouble I've heard of with those boards are cooling and most techs have taken to installing cooling fans directly on the board, driven by the +/- 20v line. That drops the temp several degrees and allows the amps to operate at a much cooler temp. We rebuild those boards here on a daily basis and add the mods for greater reliability. But other than that the P58A is considered a bullet proof chassis.
Hope this helps!
