Question about Simplicity Serge Pro SW432 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Singer Serger stopped working. Model 14-U12, since I have owned it is has always had an annoying hum when on. It stiched beautifully though. In the middle of sewing it just stopped, hum and all. Nothing is stuck, all power supplies are sucure, and electrical is fine. So what could be the problem? I did not smell any overheating. Thanks!

I have a singer 7442 and recently it seems to have a mind of its own sewing without stoping.

Back in the 1970's, I was told by a service guy, that Singer no longer made parts for it's 2 yr old machines. I have my grandmother's Singer Treadle Sewing head. It sews with No sound, An Excellent, American-made machine.

Can u do normal straight stiching with ovetlocker model 686 elna?

No. A serger is not made to do straight stitching. However, you can accomplish the look of straight stitching as long as it is on the edge of fabric. The serger trims fabric from the edge and encloses the raw edge with thread.

If you want straight stitching, you need a sewing machine. Go to a sewing machine repair shop and ask if they have an inexpensive old mechanical sewing an old Singer, White, Necchi, Kenmore--the old metal kind.

I have an Elna Junior Club sewing machine and I am sewing Lycra and using the number 14 stretch stich. It just loops and bunches up underneath even though I have set everything as instructed.

Did you pre-wash the fabric? Sometimes the finish applied at the factory causes problems. Also, be sure to use a ball point needle on knit fabric. Sometimes, using a walking foot, teflon foot, or roller foot will help the fabric move smoother through the machine. It could be that your machine is experiencing a problem with the back-n-forth movement of the stretch stitch. Otherwise, here are more guidelines to review:

How can I stop my material sliding around when I am sewing?

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask them. My Singer serger (which I am assuming yours is) takes a standard #14.. You can always take your needle with you to the store and compare, say like at a JoAnn's.

Sewing machine will not make stich

If you have rethreaded it correctly then try some of that canned air and spray it to clean out any and all lint in the machine and you may find that that may fix the problem it did on mine

I can't seem to ever get the tension right on my "singer simple". no matter what i do, the stiching is a problem. this is my second machine with the same problem, is this a mfr defect or...

Probably operator error. Make sure the machine is threaded right, make sure the bobbin is threaded properly, change the needle.... even though you think the needle is sharp. Make sure you are using the right thread. If you have bargain thread, throw it out. Use Coats & Clark, which is still reasonably priced. My friend has a lower end Singer that was acting up ... loose threads on the bottom of the fabric, which means upper tension .... we did the simple thing of changing the thread. It worked, and the machine is sewing beautifully.
