I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router and a Linksys WAP11 wireless access point. How do I make my home network secure?

Assuming your WAP11 still has the default settings... Open a browser, and type the WAP11's address (192.168.1.251) in the Address Bar and press the Enter key. You should immediately get this password dialog; Leave the User Name field empty, enter "admin" (sans quotes) in the Password field and click OK. That will bring you to the main setup screen, below: connect.jpg wap11setup.jpg
Click the WEP Key Setting button and enter your WEP info.

I get network connection but unable to access my email.

Remove the Linksys Adapter and un-install the Linksys Software from Programs menu...To re-install the Drivers insert the Linksys Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive, When the Welcome screen appears click Exit, connect your USB adapter now...When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next...Click Finish when the installation is complete...

NOTE: The Hardware Installation screen may appear indicating that the Adapter has not passed Windows Logo testing. Ignore the window and click Continue Anyway to proceed with the installation since the Adapter has been tested and found to work with Windows XP.When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.

Click on Start and goto Control Panel and double click on Network Connections...Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect".It should work...

Im trying to hook up to linskys via my laptop and its asking me for the security key or pass phrase for linsky?

Hi Good day!! your linksys is password protected that's why its sending you a message to enter it's password, you need to enter the password of the router (linksys) if you want to access the router.. try this- username: admin password: (no password just leave it blank and then enter) that is the default password. hope it works for your linksys
Thank you for using FixYa
Please accept if my solution helps you

I need to lock my linksys wireless router so no one can connect to my wifi?

Hi, this is what you need to do, you need to logon to your router with a browser, then go to security settings an generate a WAP/WEP "Key" Copy/Paste this key to a notepad document and save it. Then save the Routers settings and reboot the router, and the PC. When at desktop next. You will then attempt to logon to your WiFi network, this time however you will be asked for the "Key" open the notepad document and copy/paste, that number you stored, into the box provided, and NOW you WILL be able to access your WiFi. BUT no-one else will be able to without that "Key".
It is all explained in this manual I have included the link below.
It is under Security settings and it shows you step by step.

Wap 54g asking for a network key? what is that? I have a house with a gite when guests come they want to use Wifi and i bought this to extend the signal but they cannot use it as its asking for a key

Contact your ISP provider how to get the WEP key...

Otherwise, just reset your router. there's a reset button at the back. When scanning for netwotk choose linksys with the one that has the best signal (4-5 bars) then connect. You won't be asked for any WEP key anymore.

Hope it helps! ^_^

Can't find passphrase or security key on linksys-g model # wrt55rg

If you didn't tape the key to the bottom of the router, you get to log in and create a new one. Or did you lose the login password to the router too?

Oops, if you did, try the reset button and set it up again.

Wireless router connection problems

Assuming "cannot connect to linksys router directly" means you cannot connect to a Wireless Lan managed by Linksys router,
1) try to connect new computer to LinkSys Router using a Lan cable, add new PC to your network.
2) recover protocol (WEP or WPA) and Key of WLAN (Passphrase or Key: TKIP or AES) either from other PC on same network either from your Router.
3) If you missed actual key you must connect to router and reset it to a new key to be eventually used for every connected device.
Call for detail on this possibility
