Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

We cannot seem to get a Delonghi AC925CHS microwave from Argos which will work properly. We had the first one for about 3 months before all a sudden it started making a whiring sound and then the bulb went out. The bulb would not come back on and although it still heated things up the whiring noise was still there. So we took it back and they exchanged it for another new one. First time we use it it sounds ok. Second time part way through the cooking it starts making a whirring sound and there is the distinct smell of ozone - the whirring sounds like it is coming from the fan at the back. We have tried it over and over but the noise will not go away and there is still the smell. One thing to note...on both the models we have had there has been a silver card thing attached to the right hand side inside the microwave - it almost looks temporary...is it supposed to be there? Is there a known problem with this model of microwave? If we have to take it back again we will definitely change it for a different make as we are not exactly impressed with delonghi at this moment in time. Any suggestions?

    AC925CHS microwave.

    Yep, exact same problem.

Bought from Argos for 75 pounds (no pound sign on my pc).

Shipped to Australia and now the light has gone out and the turntable does not turn.

Will try to contact Delonghi Australia

> silver card thing

This is the waveguide cover and it provides important protection for the magnetron.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced.

hook or catch but you might not get that as a seperate part, you might have to order the door as a complete assy to get that small part. I'm more familiar with wpl and ge models but on some you can get individual parts on others you order the door as a complete unit.

My de longhi ac925chs has suddenly stopped heating or defrosting but making all the right noises. The oven and grill still work ok. Is this just the fuse and if so, can i change it myself?

It's most likely a burned magnetron, and it's usually as expencive to replace than a new oven but since yours is equiped with a grill and conventional oven check the prices it could be worth changing...

If it is still under warrenty, do not have anyone touch it as it will then be nul and void. There will be 2 problem now with the microwave. The initial bang is one and the door comming off is the second. Making a long story short, replacing the microwave would be the best bet as the spares and labour and down time will not be viable. So try for that warrenty.

No one at Delonghi will help, nor will Argos where product was bought. I just want to know if my microwave is safe (bought in May 2006) - the inside of the door (looks like a plastic covering) is bubbling...

There is a fine metal mesh / screen inside the door assembly.

If any of the holes in that screen are damaged or enlarged, then leakage is possible.

If the bubbling / deformity in the door keeps it from shutting fully and flatly, then leakage is possible.

If the bubbling / deformity in the door allows moisture to collect on or near the screen, it may lead to rust, which can damage the screen and lead to leakage.

Please feel free to contact me directly (especially if you include a few photos of the door) if you need more help.

DeLonghi combined microwave/grill/oven.

Found this posted in GE instead of DeLonghi but the basics are the same.

You say it stopped working - you mean it runs but doesn't heat?
