Red is a failure warning but if it only hasppens with the usb plugged in it's mostly likey a failure in the IDE/SATA to USB conversion board.
Take the drive to your local PC shop, ask the techs there to pull the hard drive out of your phantom and test it in a new enclosure. If it works there, buy the enclosure, if it doesn't reply back and let me kow your Country, State and City and I can recommend a pro to look at the actual harddrive if you need files recovered from it.
Your drive is defective. I had the same problem with mine. It was still under warranty, contact there tech support department. They will walk you through a bunch of test over the phone. If you have to send it in , you have to get a ticket number from Fantom Tech Support before you send it back. Also, they want your power cord that goes with the unit to be able to bench test it. I had to mail mine defect unit back. . Fanton could not fix my Green Drive and I lost a ton of data, it was almost full 1000 Gig. After several contacts to their tech department, they did send me a reconditioned one.
Do not buy the External Green Drive it is a piece of ****. It has an inferior power cord. And the power is cut down to be green friendly when It is not in use. Not worth risking your data and files. All my other Fantom Drives have been very reliable. Do not buy any WD External Hard Drives especially the Note & work books cubes. They are a complete waste of money and are guaranteed to fail and lose all your data. I have had six fail on me and their Tech Support & Customer Service is awful and non existent.
hi I am vortash it will show 0kbs in the management if it hasn't been installed as the system can't read it . I was wondering if the hard drive was installed with the lead in the wrong way as that is what it sounds like , ( I mean in the housing the ide plug may be up side down ) I have had a couple like this and the customer has made this very common mistake ,.. check this first then if you have a disk with the Fanton program on install it without it being connected so when you reboot after pluugging it in it finds it and loads the drivers itself ... I hope this solves your problem Regards Vortash

unless you fancy trying to connect the drive inside the unit directly to a pc by taking the box a part.
