I'm not sure of the exact model of my Whirlpool Range - it's called a Whirlpool Gold - it' electric with a glass top about 5 years old. I noticed this morning a very small chip in the class top in the middle of the right front burner. I'm not sure how it happened. I'm afraid to turn it on - afraid it will crack the top. It's not deep - just a chip.

SOURCE: Gemini Range Dual Burner

Unfortunately, you cannot repair one element of a dual burner. It all comes as one unit. When one portion of a dual or triple element goes bad, you must replace the whole element. I believe the part number is 1032746 and runs about $70. You will have to lift the glass top to access the burner elements. If you decide to pursue this on your own follow these steps: 1. Unplug range and/or turn off main breaker. 2. Open oven door to access screws under front edge of cooktop. Remove two screws and the top should tilt up. 3. The top will not stay up on it's own, so you will need some assistance holding it up. Some ranges have a couple of disconnect plugs that you can unplug, so you remove the entire top and lay it somewhere to work on. If this is the case with yours (as I suspect it is), lay some soft towels down on the kitchen table or counter top and lay the cooktop upside down. This will make it much easier to work on. 4. Remove affected element by disconnecting the wires first. You may want to write down how they came off, so you can be sure to reconnect them in the right order. 5. Remove mounting brackets holding element in place. Pay particular attention to the numbering scheme on the bottom of the element and where the brackets are mounted. The new element usually doesn't come with new brackets which means you have to take the brackets off the old element and put them on the new element. Make sure you install them in the same numbered holes as they were located before. 6. Reconnect wires and reinstall cooktop, making sure you reconnect the disconnect plugs if equipped. Now, be careful when working on the cooktop while it is upside down. Make sure you don't apply too much pressure on the glass or you could crack it. Also, use extreme care NOT to touch the element surface as the oils from you hands can cause hot spots and effectively ruin it. The bake light material in which the element is mounted is also very fragile. DO NOT put to much pressure on it or it may crack and break. Once you get the cooktop reinstalled and power reapplied, op test it to make sure BOTH elements are working. It is normal to see a little bit of sparking at first with new elements and/or an odor. Test the entire range of the element and make sure it regulates like it should. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: broken inside glass door on my electric KitcherAid glass top range

sounds like you may have thermal breakage. does your oven have the self-clean option? you can have the glass replaced easily. i wouldn't use the self-clean option for now.

SOURCE: How do I change the element on a Whirlpool Gold range?

If you have replaced the dual element with a new one, and have verified that you have the wiring installed correctly, it may be the infinite switch that controls the element that is bad. That would be the switch behind the control knob for the element in question.

SOURCE: REPLACE CRACKED GLASS COOK TOP

First of all, if the cook-top broke as a result of a manufacturer defect, the repairs should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. In this case, the repairs would be done at no cost to you. If, however, the glass top was broken as a result of the consumer, the repair will not be covered (even if it is still under warranty). If this is the case, it does not require an engineer to replace a glass cook-top. It can be time consuming, though. If you are somewhat savvy with fixing things, it can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfer. The following link explains how to replace most glass cooktops:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r391448-replacing_glass_cook_top

The tedious part of replacing the cook-top is carefully removing and handling each burner element. These are usually ceramic and are very fragile. You must be handled with care. If there is no common disconnect, you also will be required to unplug each burner assembly one at a time and label the wires. A digital camera can come in very handy for this as well. The easiest way to do this is to remove the old shattered cook-top, first and lay it side by side with the new one. Remove and install one burner element at a time.

If you wish to pursue this and require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

Glass top range is pitted and scratched from an abrasive cleanser. Can it be replaced. It is a whirlpool freestanding range about 2 years old

Yes, your glass top assembly on your range can be replace. Here is one link where you can get the part, http://www.apdepot.com/Products/PartsLookup2/IPLLookupFrames.aspx?Brand=WHIRLPOOL&ModelNo=GR399LXHS1&ImgID=EdI2&ImgFile=WTKIKKLL

It is a relatively easy job to replace the main top since the burners are not attached to the top assembly itself. Remove 2 or 3 screws on the front of the top and you can easily lift the entire top off of the range and replace it with the new top.

5 year old Whirlpool Gold washing machine wont spin or drain. I hear the motor hum, but wont engage. Number is GST9630PW1

Easy solution: NEVER BUY A WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT. It's only 5 years old. You spent good money. In reality, this machine is doing exactly what WHIRLPOOL Corp. programmed it to do: FAIL.
NOW, you call the service guy. They tell you it will cost about $500 to $600...which is really not a good solution. Because in 5 years, this stuff happens. The best solution is to BUY A NEW WASHER. Mission accomplished! Sell product. FIX -ha! That's how things were when our grandparents purchased appliances. Parts could be replaced. That's no longer the deal.

Whirlpool Gold electric range control panel not working

I live in a new 500 home subdivision. The contractor ordered all Whirlpool Gold products including Electric and Electric/Gas Ranges. Many of my neighbors' panels have gone out! I'm talking about epedemic trouble. My son has had his oven panel (separate from stovetop) fail within the first year. Thank God it was under warranty...this is not a cheap replacement (he had the sensor touch pad. I just had my oven pad fail. I tried to set the clock for Daylight Savings and found out half my panel is out! The fix is a replacement of the panel. Depending on which model (push or sensor) look to spend at least a couple of hundred bucks. We have the Whirlpool Gold microwave panel and so far so good. My neighbor and my son's both went out! They just tossed the two year old products and replaced them with another brand. Sorry to break you the news...class action anyone?

Hot where it shouldn't be

I just bought a Whirlpool RF265LXTB electric range and have the exact same problem. The one we bought was the floor model, so we thought maybe it was just defective, so we returned it, went to a different store and bought the same model that was new in the box. Brought it home and it is doing the exact same thing.

Talked to Whirlpool and they say it will get warm on the front, but this thing gets HOT! They said they would send out an repairman, but after two different units, I can't see anything a repairman will be able to do to fix it. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but I do have a 3-year-old at home and don't want him to get burned. I think I am going to return it and try a different brand.
