First connect the ethernet cord from your modem directly to the ethernet connector on your computer to enable direct access the internet. Click on the link below to download the software. After installing the software, connect your Netgear wireless device and let Windows install it. Follow the prompts to have Windows look for the software for your hardware. You should then be able to use the Netgear wireless device.

NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router (WPN824NAR) Wireless connection drops in and out regularly but frequency of this is unpredictable duration is usually a few seconds. Works find on direct ethernet...

Upgrade the Firmware of the router :
First you should check the version of you WPN824 (v1,v2 or v3). If there are no Version after the model number, it should be a version 1. Download the Firmware of your router given the correct version at this link :

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WPN824.asp

This is assuming that other wireless laptops has the same problem onyour wireless router. If other Laptops works great on your wirelessrouter without dropping any wireless connection, then you shouldconsider upgrading the wireless adapter on you own laptop.

***(If you haven't tried connecting otherwireless laptop wirelessly to the netgear, then you should try it firstto be sure that the netgear is the problem)

Steps on how to upgrade Netgear firmware :

  1. Download the correct file depending on your location and unzip the file to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  2. Log in the router at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 (or www.routerlogin.net ) (Which ever will work)
  3. Default User name : admin / password : password
  4. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade.
  5. Click Browse and locate the file you just downloaded.
  6. Click Upload. While the firmware is loading, do not interrupt the upgrade process.

***Therouter reboots when the upgrade is complete.
***Tocheck that the upgrade was successful, log in to the router again at http://192.168.1.1and check the firmware version.

I have an Acer Aspire 8.9....and I need to know what type of router I need to go wireless. I purchased one from Netgear, but it has a disc that must be installed and adapter that has to be used {with...

Aspire one does not have a CD/DVDROM however you can use another computer to be able to setup your router. You can probably ask a friend to use his/her laptop that has a CD/DVD ROM. After setting up the router, you can connect your Acer Aspire by letting it detect the wireless signal and connecting to your router wirelessly.

**You can also try to insert the installer disc on another PC and copy all the contents of the CD/DVD installer of the Netgear into a USB flash Drive. Plug the USB flash Drive into your Acer then run the setup file inside and follow the instructions.

PC repaired, can't find my original installation discs for my netgear 54 Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v4. Is there anywhere I can download the necessary info? I'm using the router on my laptop OK. Thanks

You should be able to download everything you need. Just go to the manufacture's website, NetGear.com, go to Support>Downloads>select your product>find your V4 listed>download installation. If you cannot find it, just email support and request a CD, be sure to include your name/address/everything necessary.

I have installed a netgear wireless router according to the wizard disc and it says I have completed it..however it is still connected to the computer..how do I make it wireless?? If I just disconnect it...

wireless hasnt got nothing in relation to the wired internet ports on your computer. think of it as two seperate books.

if you have brought a wireless router, you SHOULD have brought a wireless card to go inside your computer, just like you need a skybox to watch t.v from the satelite, it doesnt go straight to your tv. just like the wireless signals doesnt get 'absorbed' by your pc.

IF you have also brought, inserted, and installed the wireless card you should follow these steps.

firstly you need to go into 'network connections' and find your wireless connection you have. double click it and you should see a screen where you search for your wireless network, which the netgear wireless router will be sending out the signal. Once youve found your wireless network you can double click it and connect. some people will have a password, called a network key. this should be provided in the paperwork of the netgear wireless router.
