No, separate lines. It seems to be fixed now (on it's own) but I notice it happens from time to time. Any ideas why?

I have the same problem. The fax machine receives faxes from anywhere just fine. I can't fax. It will scan the paper in, dial, but it never connects and evenually times out. It goes into redial mode and then eventually prints a no connect report

YES! That's exactly what was happening with our fax. It would print out a "Busy" report after several redial attempts and never connecting. Like I said before, the fax is fine now, so weird. Does your fax machine share it's line? The only thing I can think of is maybe a bad line?

To leroyal's post on Sept. 26th:

Yes, I believe we have several. Also, that fax machine shares it's line with a computer that connects to AT&T Global Network Client. I'm thinking a faulty line but I just don't understand why it would accept faxes but not send out.

Oh well, if you ever find out why Guest, please let me know.

How do i get my brother intellifax 2820 to time stamp the faxes i receive.

From everything that I've seen I don't see any way to tim stamp incoming faxes. Almost all fax machines should automatically time stamp outgoing faxes unless the user has removed that function for some reason. If you are getting faxes from people that don't include time stamps than the next best thing is to use the journaling feature. The 2820 can print a journal of past incoming faxes that will include timestamps of the past faxes recieved in either 6,12,24 hour or 2, 7 day intervals. The default is every 50 faxes. To change the settings:

Press Menu/Set, 2,4,2
2. Journal Period
Use Arrows to choose an interval
Press Menu/Set
Press Stop/Exit

I want to send a fax message using Brother 2820 fax machine, but I don't want the receiver to see my phone number when he receives the fax message print out. Is there any way I can do this?

The FAX machine will print the Tel number that has been programmed in your machine. It does not print on the basis of the caller ID received. So i think if you remove the number programmed in your fax machine

Sending a fax

First make sure that the fax button has been pushed and is llit...

The 2820 should have a handset. In order to use manual transmission (when you get to hear all the beeps and whistles) you will need to load the document then pick up the handset. then dial the number, when you hear the recieving fax tone then hit the start button.

The 2820 should also have a hook hold button pressing this will allow you to hear the dial tone and the numbers you dial along with the receiving fax tone. If you dont hear anything when you press this button then you may want to use the volume buttons to increase the volume.

Also remember that if you have not picked up the handset or pressed he hook/hold button the unit will use automatic mode, which is to say that all you will do is load the document, dial the number, and then press the start button.

Hi. Open the document control panel and look in with a flashlight and see if the jam switch is stuck. also look for a small piece of paper that might be stuck in there. The jam is in where you put documents in to fax out. Lawrence

Sending and receiving faxes on legal size paper.

There should not be a problem with TX on LGL paper. If you want to configure the machine to recieve LGL on a regular basis: Press "MENU" 1-3. Then use the up/down arrows to select LGL. "MENU", "EXIT". That should do it. Good luck!
