Question about JVC AV-27D302 27" TV

JVC AV-31BMS clock stopped

Clock stopped functioning.
Volume display won't go away--nor will any other display, like time (which is stuck at original setting), channel, etc.
Must keep pressing "Display" every time I change volume, or Mute, to clear the displays.
Does the clock have a replaceable battery? Accessible?
(TV works fine otherwise, in my mid-80s not likely to replace it!)
Thanks

Sorry I was not clear. Two things simultaneously stopped working:

    1) The Volume bars will no longer go away after a few seconds like they used to; they stay on and clutter the screen indefinitely. This is my biggest complaint.

2)The TV's Time/Date froze at the time/date set for it--will not advance. They can be reset to a different time/date but then will freeze at that setting.

To make the volume bars go away after I change volume I must click Display.

    - When I click Display to erase the volume bars, the (frozen) time/date/timer box comes up so I must click Display again to get rid of that, then the (frozen, incorrect) current time alone comes up, so click again, then channel number shows, then click yet again (whew, 4 clicks) to finally get back to an uncluttered screen. I MUST GO THRU THIS ROUTINE EVERY TIME I CHANGE VOLUME OR MUTE !

(-About the "clock:" I presumed there is a clock circuit in the TV that controls both of these functions and that maybe it has a removable battery like PCs have. Just a guess.)

Hi,

Based on your description, two (2) possibilities:
1. The JVC has a feature called TV Guide+. If yes it has one and it is engaged/enabled, then the TV will download TV program information and the current time, hence the clock cannot be adjusted manually. Pls try to disable this feature;
2. The logic circuitry controlling your OSD (on screen display/menu) would need looking over. Often this would just require basic cleaning of the circuit board and the components with special focus on the processor IC. After dust removal, a spray of electronic contact cleaner would help. There are occasions that a limiting resistor or a filter capacitor in the +5VDC rail would require check/replacement.

In some instances, it could be simple a case of weak batteries on the remote.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

When you are entering the service mode you can set the clock.
With TV powered ON press: [DISPLAY] and [VIDEO STATUS] on the remote at the
same time.

-or-
Press the [SLEEP TIMER] key and set the SLEEP TIMER for "0" MIN. While the
SLEEP TIMER information is still on screen, press the [DISPLAY] key and [VIDEO
STATUS] key of the remote control unit at the same time to enter the SERVICE
MENU.

Exit the service menu by twice pressing the [EXIT] key on the remote.

It seems more like the protection circuit is being activated.

This activation is caused whenever there is a short circuit or high current fault anywhere within the set. It must be defeated by a tech in order to find out what is going on. Typical causes for this activation are: high voltage failures, shorted down deflection amplfiers, power supply or audio amplifier defects.

Judging from the age of the set you may wish to consider whether to repair or replace. A new 27 inch set of this caliber is around $159 and up. Repair costs may be as much or more than this.
Hope that helps.......

It sounds that the Closed Caption function [CC}, is not set to ON. Set it OFF. Push the button marked {CC} at the remote control once to get rid of it. If there is no CC button on the remote control, you have to enter its service mode option to deselect it. A digital clock time display appeared on the screen, is always there, and we can not get it to turn off. It is in the lower left corner of the screen and is very distracting. HeLP!

First of all, here is the direct link to the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for that model:

http://books.jvc.com/Download/896712413/LCT0566-001A-A.pdf

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

See page 26 of the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for detailed instructions on how to set the DISPLAY function to stop displaying the time. Basically it says to press the DISPLAY button until the onscreen text reads OFF. Then just leave it alone and the text and clock should disappear shortly on its own.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Time display always on

If I remember correctly on these older CRT JVC sets. It was either press the "display" button on the remote a few times to turn the clock off or the option to leave it on is in the menu system.

The clock display came on and i can't get it off...

Most clock functions are accessed from MENU ... SETTINGS... TIMER CLOCK ... (Location)... ( Display Y N)

Some options may differ slightly between models But generally along those lines.

I like the clock and wish it would display but mine seems to have a mind of its own It displays somedays and not others, displays on analog and not on Digital on Wednesdays! havent found out why that is either!

The digital clock on my 30"JVC is showing in the bottom of screen

The menu screen does not function the display. Without the original remote or a universal remote that does not have a display button, try unplugging the television for at least 2 minutes or more and plug the tv back in. This should reset the tv display. If the universal remote has a display button, depress the display button until you get the desired display results. Reference the user guide below for the display button.

Clock stopped posted at bottom of tv

In order to remove the Clock display on the TV screen press the DISPLAY button on the remote, it may be labeled OSD on older remotes. As this button may bring up more than one display it may be necessary to press it more than once.
