Question about Acer Aspire 5600 Series 5630-6951 Laptop

1 Answer

Dark lcd screen

I just installed a replacement lcd screen in an acer aspire 5601 notebook. When I powered the unit on the screen was very dark - the images were almost not visible. The old screen was still working, just cracked, so I re-installed it to troubleshoot and it was also very dark and unable to be adjusted. My next step is to buy a new inverter, thinking maybe I somehow messed up the old one in the screen replacement process. I just wanted to know if you think that should take care of the problem or if there is something else I should check first. Thanks.

thanks much. I'll give that a try. to avoid doing this again, i need to not let the screen touch the inverter board? Also, I didn't remove the battery before installation attempt. Would that also help me avoid the same problem? Thanks again

It definitely was helpful. I'm just waiting to receive the part so I can install it. This way if it fixes the problem, I can rank the solution a 4 instead of a 3.

Dark laptop screen inverter and lamp ok

It might be necessary to send it in to Acer for their technicians to look at it as they have parts there. The damage of the display panel many have damaged other parts as well I would suspect the ribbon cable that feeds the display from the main body section. Is power getting to the inverter? Look at the items you have not compared with the other unit such as a ribbon cable- what else is there?

Acer aspire 3610 graphic or battery problem?

It sounds like your backlight is damaged. On some units this can be replaced on its own. On others, it requires the entire LCD to be replaced. I'll see if I can find out which this is, in your case, and find you a part number.

Its not the inverter, it's your backlight. Hard work to change, sorry, and it might be cheaper/quicker to replace the whole lcd panel at $100 (£65)

Acer Aspire 3100 series. Display screen getting dark

This is such a user error. I had the same problem on my 3100-1718. It was as simple as holding down the Fn key and using the left and right arrow keys to change the brightness... I am a goofball for ever letting this stay dark for a month !

ACER ASPIRE LCD TROUBLE!!

If the screen appears dark with only a faint image or picture and the brightness can't be adjusted then it is likely that the screen backlight is not on - the backlight is like a very thin flourescent tube that runs along the bottom of the screen and provides the illumination. The backlight tube may be faulty or the small electronic inverter unit that powers the backlight tube may have failed. Occasionally the backlight is off because the little switch that is used to detect the screen lid being closed is broken or stuck in. If your backlight is faulty, some engineers will replace it - but it is more common that the entire screen is changed. If it is the inverter they can usually be replaced from ebay.
