Question about Canon Powershot SD450 / IXUS 55 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Water damage I dropped my camera in a small puddle of water. When I try to take pictures in the light, I get a white picture on the LCD screen. However, when I try taking pictures indoors or in dark places, the pictures work. Please advise how I can fix this problem. I have a Canon Ixus 25. Whilst in a bag,a water bottle burst and the camera got wet. On returning home I removed the battery and memory card and left it to dry in the soft sun. I then found some silica gel sacs and placed one in the battery aperture. The battery opens the lens but the screen just shows a white blur. On looking at the lens it seems as though there is some moisture trapped behind. What can I do please? Your advice will be appreciated. Manfred Salamon

Let me suggest you don't leave a high tech piece of equipment in a bag with a water bottle (even if it isn't open).

I turned my camera on and the lcd screen is white and shows no image. I plugged it into my computer and the pictures are still intact, and the camera is able to take pictures, but I can not view them on...

Try restarting your camera a few times and see if that solves the problem. I would suggest saving all of your pictures and reset the camera if possible. Sony's quality of their cybershots are quite sub-par and common things like an LCD shorting out is quite frequent, so you may have to call the manufacturer to replace/repair your camera.

When I turn on my camera it just displays a white screen.. I can take pictures but can not see them until I go to download them onto my computer

This can be caused by either Water/Moisture damage or the LCD cable needs to be reseated
If you think it is water damage then not much you can do except for a replacement screen.. assuming thats the only damage. If you think it may have been dislodged you will need
to have an expert reseat the LCD cable.

I have a FujiFilm S5000 and since 2 weeks the sensor seems not to be able to adjust when trying to take a picture in sunny condition. The screen shows white and pink colour with horizontal lines. I turn...

Actually it's not the sensor it's the LCD screen. I would say in the last two weeks the camera didn't change but the environment it is being used in has and is causing the camera to overheat.

Keeping the camera within these perimeters should solve your problem.

White screen (no picture) when camera is turned on.

It is probably an issue with the LCD display panel of your camera. It may be just a LCD connector cable coming loose or the panel itself is damaged(Kodak cameras are notorious for this issue). Fortunately it is a relatively inexpensive repair. If the camera is under warranty make use of it to get it replaced for free. Note that the warranty is void if there has been a water lodge or if you take it apart yourself.

Water damage

try this :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .

it sounds crazy .

Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
.

Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, SIM, and phone. This should aid in drying.

Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.

It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).

beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.

This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.
