First of all check the adapter, check the voltage on the pins with a multimeter. If there is no voltage change the adapter.
If present connect and check the voltage on the battery terminals, if not present the main board is faulty. If present the battery may be faulty.
You can attempt a external kick charge on the battery to initiate the battery to charge if any cells are blocked.
Dumb
question, but have you tried the usual work around (he says, blithely
assuming that you've got a Windows PC) of trying a different USB port?
I've had problems with a scanner getting recognized that moving to a
different port sorted out fine.
Oh, and I've also had some issues with 3rd party microUSB leads - they seem to only be usable for charging.
