Generic problem for all Digital Cameras

Card read error on Fuji Finepix A340

ill keep it simple
-bought a new card for the camera M 512mb
-when i turned the camera on it says "card not initialized"
-so i format the card, take a picture and i get a "write error" on the screen
-when i turn the camera off then back on, it is back to saying "card not initialized"

HELP!!!!!
