Some programs (particularly games) change the screen resolution for the best display. The maximum screen size that can be displayed (completely) is either 1024x600 or 1366x768 depending on the exact model you have.

To change the screen

1. Right click your mouse in the desktop background photo and select "Properties"

2. Left click on the "Settings" tab at the top

3. A little way more than half way down the window you will see the "Screen resolution" slider. I would reduce it to 1024x600 and click the [Apply] button at the bottom of the window.

4. The screen will change, and you will be asked if this is the resolution you want. If it is click yes and click [OK] button to exit.

This should have you fixed up. You can play with this control and see what resolution you like the best.

Screen flashes colors

The issue (flashes" colored screens) you're facing could be related to drivers and could be resolved by updating the display drivers. Without the correct driver, the hardware or device that you want to use won't work properly.
Also refer to:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
Let's try to boot the computer in low resolution mode and check the issue status.
Low resolution starts Windows using your current video driver and using low resolution and refresh rate settings. You can use this mode to reset your display settings.
Refer the section:
Enable low-resolution video (640×480)

Resolution is all screwed up. Everything is enlarged and thescreen looks like it`s in safe mode. I tried settings but it will not changr back to normal.

Open "Device Manager".
Ensure that you have the correct device-driver for your video-adapter, not the "Generic VGA" device-driver. If necessary, click "Reinstall driver".

Geforce 7900 driver problem.

Hi,

If re-installing the GeForce 7900 driver does not correct the problem it may be because you need to install first the AGP port driver of the motherboard. In some motherboards, this is part of the chipset. In the case of VIA chipsets, the AGP driver (not the video card) is part of the 4 in 1 driver set.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Screen stretch

Try adjusting the screen resolution, adjust it to a lower setting, then back to the original. If this doesn't work, then uninstall the video drivers from the device manager, and reboot. The machine will find the video and reinstall the drivers. One of these should fix the problem.

Cannot change resolutions.(monitor)

This could be caused by a variety of problems:

1. The video/graphic card does not support that resolution because:

a. it does not have sufficient display memory (at least 2 or 4 megabytes is requiered, if you don't have this amount buy a new video card)

b. the video card driver has not been installed properly or is corrupted (reinstall the video driver)

2. The monitor does not support 1024x768 resolution

Change your resolution, follow this procedure:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_change_screen_resolution.mspx?mfr=true

Please provide your entire system specifications, including the monitor.

My monitor is stuck in the lowest resolution

Distorted video after increasing the resolution in Windows. The resolution has been set higher than what is supported by the monitor, ... we recommend 640 x 480 with 256 colors or the lowest available setting.
Computer always boots into Windows safe mode. When booting into safe mode, the lowest settings are used, including your video card. This means that the resolution is 640x480, 16 colors when in safe mode.
