Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My daughter brought her tv home from college without the remote. I'm now trying to hook it up to digital cable. It needs to be on channel 3. When I try to manually change the channel to 3 using the buttons on the tv, it jumps from channel 2 to channel 5. Any suggestions as to how to get it to channel 3 without the remote?

The easiest will be to make sure that the cable box is on and sending out a signal to Channel 3 and auto-programming the set. Channel 3 is skipped because the last time it was auto-programmed, there was no signal on that channel.

If you have the "basic" Shaw Digital Terminal, use the TV's remote to set the TV to channel 3. Use the Shaw Remote Control to "channel-up" and "channel-down".

Hook up everything right, but can't seem to get suround sound from TV. Went to Bestbuy and brought a Digetal Optical cable and it still dosen't seem to give mr that sound like the home theater sound---help!

On the remote press the surround mode button and set it to Prologic movies or music when you are watching TV to get the rear speakers to work.
Or if you have Digital cable TV with Dolby Digital 5.1 content, make sure you have connected theLG to your TV using HDMI v1.3a. There is an audio return channel on this cable which will stream 5.1 audio signal to the LG system.

I was given a duro brand tv and brought it home and put it in my bedroom hooke my cable to it and cannot get it to come on does it have a reset button

Do you mean no power or no cable? If you mean no cable, did you do a channel autosearch? Is it new or used?Even if it is 5 years old,an autosearch should pick up some digital channels. If it does not have the original remote, you will have to use the menu button on the TV to access the channel search. If none of these options work,it is simply a large paperweight.Universal remotes do not give menu access.Let me know how you make out.Just make a comment to this post and I will get a notice that you replied. Good luck! Greg

How do I put the GE remote xs stereo monitor into input mode without the remote?

A good universal remote to use with that monitor is the RCA RCRN04GR, available at WalMart. I recently bought a 25" GE Remote Monitor XS Stereo from a Days Inn that was replacing all of those monitors with Flat Screen TV's. When I got it home I found that it would not go to channel 4 which was default with my COX Digital Cable Box. Channel 3 is the default channel on the monitor, so I ran an AV cable from the cable box, disconected the coax and hooked up the AV cable to the back of the TV and that solved the problem. I hope that answer was helpful.

I have a Philips TV, model HD2717 C101. All channels do not display--Why? It skips quite a few channels on scan, the only to get them is to actually select the channel individually.

Hi are you running it off of an antenna or cable?
Assuming you have a digital tuner and are selecting the proper type of channel search Ie: cable or air it could be that the tv needs a firmware update to the tuner.

I have experienced similar issues with several TV's I had an Olevia 37" HDTV that required a firmware update to get the tuner to properly decode channels.

I also have seen lots of cases were people have cable hooked up without a cable box and receive "mixed" channels.

I currently have Comcast and have 6 TV's hooked up 3 with cable boxes and 3 directly off the line. According to Comcast I should not be getting anything besides "basic" channels without a box but using the digital tuner in the TV's does pickup most of the channels and even some HD channels that are not there using their boxes.

Interestingly enough none of the TV's tuners decode the channels into the same "channel." As an example HGTV on 1 TV shows up as 84.4 but then 86.1 on the second and something like 84.11 on the third.

My recommendation run the auto program again then go through channel by channel and see if anything needs to be manually entered or deleted. I know this is a pain in the **** and takes about 20 minutes per TV but hopefully that will tell you if your TV tuner is relocating the channels to another channel.

Lastly if your tuner is not digital or if the tuner can't be updated you may have to use a secondary tuner such as one in a VCR to get the channels you desire.

This whole Digital Conversion that we have undergone has brought to light for me at least that our government and corporations don't care about the real world impact on the ordinary person.

Sure they made money on reallocating bandwidth and sure tons of new HDTV's and digital products (including digital cable) have been sold but I haven't come across anyone who feels they have benefited from the conversion forced upon us.

Hope this helps sorry about my rant.

No TV signal

If it's hooked to Dish network, you have a receiver to connect to the TV. If you're using the receiver's RF output on channel 3 or 4 to the TV's antenna jack, you need to have the receiver on while the TV is scanning or it won't add the receiver's output channel. You can rescan channels after you turn the receiver on. If the TV has AV input jacks and you're connecting the receiver that way, you need to switch the TV to the AV input. That may be difficult or even impossible without the TV remote.

Turn the set on, hook the cable directly to the TV, take the remote control and press 1 - 1 and if the TV tunes in channel 11 then your set is fine. If the TV was autoprogrammed when hooked to a cable box then the only channels that will be stored in memory are 3, maybe 4 and AUX. To correct this simply go back into the menu and look for the "autoprogram" option and perform the autoprogram while the cable is directly connected to the TV, without a cable box.
