Most of these carriage jam errors actually have to due with one of two things:

A small white gear in the cleaning/purge service station gearing (non repairable or orderable part) or a spring wire dislodges in the carriage housing for the cartridges dislodges and punctures the flex contact ribbon in the rear of the slot that holds the cartridges. The second is easy to check. Remover the cartridges and look for the puncture marker in the ribbon tape that contacts with the cartridge. The gearing issue is far more difficult to visually inspect as most of the machine has to be disassembled to dig into the purge stations internal gears. The best way to diagnose is to carefully listen for a light clicking noise when the purge is moving back and forth to clean the cartridges. Either way if you have either malfunction, the machine IS NOT repairable as HP does not or will not sell the parts. Most of the used machines sold on the auction sights as non-functioning used parts machine also have these same problems so are pretty much useless to use as parts to fix your problem. Sorry the news isn't better but it's accurate as we have seen at least 75 to 100 of this model in for repairs at our printer service and repair company.

Lokked at the solution recommended by HP however its is a very very very small percentage of the machines that can be remedied by HP's suggestion. The above that I posted covers at least 95 to 98% of the machines. I am a printer technician with over 13 years experience and have seen at least 75 to 100 of this model.

Wow! That was a whole lot of work for a low rating. Guess I shouldn't have put out the effort. :)

It seems you mistook Carriage Jam as Paper Jam, but they are different issues. Carriage jam means the carriage that carries the cartridges is jammed which needs to be moved or be cleared manually after opening the door.

Please follow the instructions mentioned here (Click Here) [source HP Support].

Good Luck.

Check the following steps for fixing Hp Carriage Jam Error :

Open the print carriage access door. Check for any packing material that may be blocking the internal components. Check for an orange shipping lock that may still be in place on the left side. Pull the shipping lock out, if present, and discard.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Lift the front center of the print carriage access door to open it. Lift the door up until it locks into an open position. Press down on a print cartridge and allow it to spring back up. Lift the cartridge out of the printer. Do the same for the other cartridge. Slide the black cartridge into the slot on the left and the color cartridge into the slot on the right. Press down on each one to lock it into place. Lower the print carriage access door.

Check the print cartridges to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the ink nozzles. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Remove any tape or labels. Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Push in on the tab on the left side of the clean-out door on the back of the printer to open the door. Lift the door out of the printer. Check for any paper jams. Jammed paper can block the printer cartridge carriage from moving. Pull any jammed paper out.

HP Digital Copier 610 Carriage Error

Depending on where the paper jam happened and how you cleared it, you could have either "knocked the copier for a loop" or actually damaged the print carriage. The first thing I would do in your shoes is to turn off the copier and unplug the power cord from the back of the product.

Wait about 30 seconds or so to make sure any errors being held in the copier's memory by any residual electrical charge clears.

Plug the power cord back in to the back of your product and turn it on. My guess is that you'll be prompted to go through a cartridge alignment procedure. That may well clear up the problems you see.

Just in case, I'm posting a link to HP.com to instructions on how to clearn the electrical contacts on the print cartridges and print carriage. There are also instructions on this page regarding latching cartridges. These seem to be fairly easy processes, but if not done correctly, can result in continuing errors:
