I've tried taping it shut and using heavy elastics. Nothing works for long. I love the camera otherwise!

My samsung PL200 battery door does not close due to a broken plastic latch on the frame, which seems to require replacement of the frame itself to replace the missing latch

Usually part of the plastic battery door breaks off so the sliding latch (when you push the battery door in toward the camera after replacing batteries) can't latch. If this is the problem you can buy a new battery door that will come with a new latch that isn't broken.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Door of camera is not shutting completely

If the connections are tight and not loose, battery should not drain excessively. Gap in door should not drain batteries. Try gun wrapper over battery to improve connection if battery moves.

My canon ixus cannot switch on

Make sure the battery is charged. Check the battery door switch and that the battery door fits tightly. You can see the door switch through a cutout in the door frame. It is very small. You can usually bypass it if it is broken. First you have to figure out if it is always on or always off when the door is open. If it is always on then just remove the switch. If it is always off (and turns on when the door is closed) then solder a wire to connect the switch's contacts so that the camera thinks the door is closed.

Note: this solution requires precision soldering and experience

Other possible causes: blown fuse (usually found near the DC in plug), main circuit failure

Is the battery door maybe not closing tightly, causing the metal area that touches the tips of the batteries to not be in close enough contact with them? This happened with my camera due to a cracked battery door, and until I can afford to replace it, I've put a rubberband around my camera over the little door to hold the batteries in tightly! Surprisingly, this is working for me! I know it's not an optimal fix, but thought I'd offer the suggestion. (You didn't say what make/model your camera is.)

I put in new batteries in but 5 mins later it says low battery and turns itself off.

I have the same problem. Canon support claims they have never had this problem before, but it is all over the Internet. I won't be buying another Canon for the support, although the camera is sweet.

I have tested everything I can see including the batteries and there's nothing wrong with the batteries.

However, when I eyeball the height of the batteries, I see that one is lower than the others. So I assume that this connection is not as solid as the rest and may be why low battery indicator shows even when the batteries are testing fully charged.

On the SX20 you can't bend down the terminals at the top, so you have to reach in to the bottom and bend the contacts on the short battery up. I believe that this is just a temporary solution because it doesn't fix my camera permanently.

But try it. It is a free fix and can't hurt.

IMHO

Vtech camera - will not switch on. Have tried changing baterries and sometimes can get it to switch itself on when the batteries are changed but thn it will not switch off.

Have you tried checking if the battery door is tightly secured? Make sure it's completely closed correctly, the charge could be messed up. If that doesn't work, try cleaning doors and where the battery touches the door. Some dust particles or dirt can be on there and effect the power.
Good luck!

Compartment door will not shut properly, camera will come on

Drill 2 tiny holes, large enough to insert thin paper clip wire. One hole is drilled in the battery compartment door, close to the sidewall but in between the 2 adjacent batteries.
Drill second hole in battery case by first peeling back the ruberized coating slighty. This hole should be adjacent or sighted in line with the first hole. In each case, allow enough in tact plastic door or case so that it can withstand the pressure of a tightened piece of wire. Insert batteries. Then insert wire carefully tto penetrate both holes. Press down hard on battery compartment door and carefully twist the 2 ends of the inserted paper clip wire to secure the compartment door tightly. The one drawback is that each time you wish to change batteries, you will have to follow the above procedure.Don't know of any recalls on this condition.

My camera was dropped now it won't turn on what do I do?

check the battery door to see if it is closed tightly. if the door is not, the connection between the terminals on the underside of the door and the battery terminals are not tight. Try putting some finger pressure on the door itself, trying some different places on the door, and see if that works. i found the same thing was happening with mine (after replacing/recharging batteries few times). Unfortunately, my warranty is up and now i am trying to find a parts supply store or a cheaper repair place to fix the door properly.

hope that may help
