Metz CT-4 flash gun overheated on the shaft the plastic casing overheated and melted the plastic on the handle grip I opened it up and noticed the wires inside were completely Melted.

Unfortunately, from your description, the flash is completely done for - while a repair may be possible, I doubt if it would be economically worthwhile. Replacement is probably the only answer.
What may be more important is to find out why this occurred - is it down to the charger, the batteries or an internal problem with the flash ? Were the batteries those supplied by Metz, or a different make ? If they were Metz ones, then maybe you should inform the manufacturers, to help others avoid this problem, and you might get a replacement flash if it is a manufacturing problem.

Bulb metz 45cl

How do you know you need a "bulb"? (I suppose you call bulb the xenon tube.) The flash lamp - actually a low pressure xenon-gas filled discharge tube - is a long-lasting device, goes only wrong if cracked. After several thousands of full-power flashes it starts to become foggy a bit, thus somewhat decreasing the light output. If the flash does not fire, this is rarely an indication of a faulty tube. Some other reasons could result

Metz 58 AF with Nikon d90 wont flash

Hi, Bad news for you.

Try this.
  1. put new batteries in flash.
  2. turn flash on off camera.
  3. listen for capacitor to squeal (high pitched whistle). If you hear it it is charging. If not capacitor is bad.
  4. Also should see flash ready light come on. If it does not same as #3 above.
  5. If you pass #3 & 4# above press manual flash/check/test button on flash. No flash means bulb is out. It can be replaced.
Hope this fixed ya. Please rate. Good Luck! Comment back if you need further assistance.

External Flash for 3000Z

I have tried a couple of external flashes on the 3000Z. It is my understanding from reading various Internet posts (and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) that, other than triggering the flash to go off, there is no communication between the external flash in the hot shoe of the 3000Z and the 3000Z itself. Settings need to be made manually in the manual mode to set the f-stop and the aperture to get good exposures. The Metz flashes are expensive. Most have opted to use less expensive flashes such as the Vivitar 283/383, or a Sunpak, or even a "Wal-mart" flash. I chose an inexpensive bounce flash with a secondary "fill-in" flash to get rid of the shadows sometimes seen with indoor bounce flash pics. I purchased the Phoenix 82ZBDA Multi-dedicated twin flash from Porter's Photo Catalogue for $37.95. This flash works fine, but is not that powerful (GN 79 ). If you need a more powerful flash, you might consider the Vivitar 383.
