That's very strange, I would try removing the device from the system. Do this by going into Control Panel/System/Hardware Tab/Device Manager. Click on DVD CD ROM drives, right click on the drive and select uninstall. Reboot your system, windows should automatically recognize the drive again and reinstall the drivers for it. Try your CD's now, if it still doesn't work check with your manufacturer regarding the system's warranty.

Does the toshiba sd 2502 , can it burn cds

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

Sounds like your need to install the codecs. Here's a good set of them: Download the full version and you might also want to check your dvd decoders,

Dvd rom not reading cds/dvds

I had similar problem on a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, I simply had to reconnect DVD drive. It usually loosing it's connection with motherboard and drive is visible in My Computer but it doesn't recognize any discs. If reconnection does not solve your issue you may try to update your DVD firmware and if it won't help replace DVD drive. Good Luck!

My Lite-On combo sohc-5236v does not read CD but it reads DVD.

The reason for this is most likely Copyright protection. If this is the case, it will read DVDs as it is only a DVD-ROM, but what happens in the case of CDs, is that they recognise the drive as a Burner, and the Copyright that is embedded into the CD wont let the drive read it. This also happens with DVDs in some DVD burners.

The way to test this, is by getting a CD-RW disc that has music or files on it, put it in the drive, and see if it reads it. If it doesn't, then you may have a fault with the drive, but if it does read the CD-RW, then the only way round it that I know of, is to buy a CD-ROM drive and use both drives.

Hi

Type of media settings might be the issue but making a change for standard CD/DVD recording (it affects reading too) Issue can be resolved. Right click on the CD/DVD drive (Usually D drive ) click on properties and select and choose the recording option. Click the enable CD recording for this drive option

IF THAT DONT WORK THEN YOU CAN GET AND OLD DRIVE THAT WE CAN GET SPARE PARTS FROM

IF YOU CANT THEN TRY RUBBING A SMALL AMT OF TURTLE WAX ON THE LENS AND POLISH IT OFF

IT WORKED A FEW TIMES FOR ME BEFORE
