Question about Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX Personal Web Camera

1 Answer

Cannot store video

My STX seems to work fine but will not store video. I can get it to store 1 frame and even this disappears. The MVW file appears in the directory but then disappears. Photos work ok.

Any help appreciated

Have you tried to move the files to another directory? It would seem the software only keeps these files temporarily. There might be a setting in the software to prevent this deletion.

No solution but have the same problem. Corel site doesn't seem to have a solution even thought it appears that the problem also applies to version 9, which I think they still support.

Launch the logitech toolbar and open the "Quick Capture" menu (2 film frames)
Right click on one of your photos and select "view" you may have to take a pic if the gallery is empty

yes avi should play on that.. but i think that kind of device(frame) is like some of the mp4s that includes avi in the features but will have problems playing avi type of files.... ... i dunno if this is useful coz i dont think i have the answers to correct it... maybe u can just convert the files in other filetype that your frame can read....

i read this from wikipedia

The AVI container has no native support for modern MPEG-4 features like B-Frames. Hacks are sometimes used to enable modern MPEG-4 features and subtitles, however, this is the source of playback incompatibilities.
AVI files do not contain pixel aspect ratio information. Microsoft confirms that "many players, including Windows Media Player, render all AVI files with square pixels. Therefore, the frame appears stretched or squeezed horizontally when the file is played back."[1] There are other video container formats that allow irregular shaped pixels.
More modern container formats (such as QuickTime, Matroska, Ogg and MP4) offer more flexibility, however, projects based on the FFmpeg project, including ffdshow, MPlayer, xine, and VLC media player, have solved most problems with viewing AVI format video files.

pls do update me if you've resolve the problem

How can I retrieve lost video files?

You can try using this software for recovering the deleted video from the camcorder. It is not a freeware but the free version can scan and show you the file so that you can purchase the software if it finds the file.

Download Acer Aspire 5720Z Windows XP Drivers from http://www.focusoft.biz/2009/01/06/download-acer-aspire-5720z-windows-xp-drivers

I checked all the files and couldn’t find any threat in them, not even false positive.

Graphics breaking up

Well, just for kicks... It's a heatsink and not a fan on there? Maybe when playing games, open the case, put a household fan on to circulate the air especially on the videocard. Heatsinks are a temporary replacement in case the fan goes out on the video card. I use heatsinks as a quickfix for video cards at my job...but they aren't playing games on the PC, so the video cards aren't really going to heat up. Yeah, it does sound like a faulty card, but maybe the above tips will allow you to still play games with the card.
