Question about E-Machines eMachines Refurbished EMA SYSTEM BOARD MODEL T2984 eMachines (102257) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Emachine T2862 User complains it will not power on all of the suddent without warning. No LED lights. No fan spin. I opened the case and do not see green LED on the mobo. I tried anbother PSU and now see a green LED on the mobo, however, it still will not power on. I tested the CMOS battery was at least 3V and tried reseting the jumber on the BIOS config, reseated RAM in both slots, tried good RAM, tried a known good FAN. This thing will NOT turn on. I know her PSU is bad, when it went, I think it shorted out a capcitor or killed some part on the motherboard. Any ideas? Know any links besides ebay that has refurmished emachine systemboards? I would not get a new one but the user may want to. i will tell her that I recommend she invest the money that she would pay for a refurbished piece a junk eMachine, save it and instead invest in a Compaq, Dell or IBM desktop. Maybe a ThinkCentre. What tests can I do on the mobo to see if it has a short? Can I put a voltmeter on it some place? Do I have to use a giant ociliscope? HELP!!!!

HP Pavilion Media Center m8200n upon turning on it only beeps, and led light blinks twice contiuously, with no signal to monitor?

Power On LED Carl?

I ask that because most Power Supply's that HP uses, have an LED on the back also.
(HiPro, Delta, and Bestec)

The LED is now working as a diagnostic LED.
(Light Emitting Diode, so stating LED light, is redundant)

The beeps you hear are BIOS Beep Codes.
The computer's way of telling you something is wrong, and an area to look into for it.

As stated, it's a Code.
One example;
3 Short beeps,...pause, 3 Short beeps,...pause, etc.

With the Power On LED blinking 2 times, then a pause; indicates,

A) Computer is dirty inside. To include Power Supply

Computer is unplugged from power, Anti-Static Procedures are FOLLOWED; and a can or two of compressed air for computers, is used to clean it out.

I have a procedure to follow if you are interested.

B) Processor (CPU) fan is not seated correctly, and/or is Not functioning, or functioning properly.

Case open, and computer on; see if the Processor fan is;
1) Spinning

2) Looks to be spinning the proper speed.

No, I don't expect you to count the Revolutions per Minute, lol!
My reference is a general one. If the Processor fan looks to be turning slowly, you'll know it

3) Processor fan spins intermittently. Spin, slow down, stop....spin, etc.

C) Thermal Paste in-between Processor, and the finned Heatsink that sits on it, has dried up.
Lost it's thermal conductivity properties.

Top of Processor, and Bottom of Heatsink; MUST be THOROUGHLY cleaned, and fresh, new Thermal Paste applied.

I have a procedure for this too.

I can guide you step by step.

Try buying a fan based on your computer's make and model. Just go to ebay and type in your computer's make and model followed by FAN.

EMachine T2862 has no sound

If your computer does indeed have a Sound Card, then the drivers for this card are not working. Try reinstalling from the driver disk you got with your computer and see if the sound comes back.

System not booting, k8n

Have you tried resetting the bios? turn off the computer and remove the power cable connected to the power ATX power supply, look for the "clr_cmos" jumper and change the settings from 1-2 to 2-3 for approx. 10 secs, then return the jumpers to original settings and reconnnect the power cable and turn on the computer. This was the solution when i had the same problem before. Hope this helps you too.

T2862 wont work -no power goes to it.

emachine?
is it new?
if its not, then check the power supply, there should be a green light on the back of the unit. if this is yellow or not lit at all then the problem is your PSU

crack the case and make sure the PSU cables are connected properly
also while your in there check for swollen capacitors or dust

Emachine will not power up

By nothing else, from a technical standpoint this would mean literally nothing, the CPU fan, power supply fan, aux fan, disk drive not spinning up, etc. My experience with EMachines is their motherboards aint the best, have been known to take out hard drives and other peripherals to the mother board. If you are technically inclined the first thing to do is to bare out the system, Power Supply attached to the Mother Board w/ Cpu Monitor and Keyboard no Hard Drive and no Non esential boards installed, very carefully remove the memory and start it up all should be fine except it should give you a long beep from the PC Speaker indicating the Mother Board is aware there is no memory installed if it will not do this most basic of tests this is not good. If it does give you a health beep continue to install one item at a time, first the memory, the display should, if working, tell you there is a boot failure, of course, the hard drive is not connected, do so and keep on testing. Without knowing what type of mother board you have, most likely an AT with integrated peripherials the process to determine exactly what the problem is would take hands on trouble shooting. If you dont get the beep indicating the mother board cant determine if memory is installed and truley nothing else is on it is more likely the mother board. There are several good ones online that will fit your case if you want to go this route. Or is it time to upgrade ?

Emachine t2862 fan keep turning on and slows down my computer not sure if its the video card but thats when it usually happens

A fan turning on IS protecting something from OVERHEATING, more than likely the pc needs to be cleaned on the inside (blown out) especially the fans..
If the fan is coming on while the computer is being used, it's trying to cool down a hot component.
a fan should not strain the system,
this can be caused by adding a high end video card and not updating the power supply to needed voltages.... but from the factory, the power supply should be more than enough to run the system and fans without getting overused. sooooo........
1. pull the side off your computer
2. listen to the fans as they run
3. inspect them physically for dirt and freeness
4. check the powersupply, videocard, cpu and case fans..

Emachine won't turn on

With an Emachine it can be the power supply or the motherboard.

My guess it is the capacitors on the motherboard. Check to see if the round cylinders on the motherboard are bulging on the ends, and possibly rusty looking. Esp around the Main CPU/Fan.

They are notorious for bad capacitors.

If the caps look good, it still could be the motherboard, or maybe the power supply. Switcing out the power supply is pretty easy.

Unplug
disconnect all the power connectors
unscrew the 4 screws on the back of the computer
remove and replace the power supply.
Make sure you get a power supply with as much power, or more is much better. 350 watt or higher.

Can not find heat sink switches on motherboard emachine t2862

Heat sink switches? I have to assume that you're talking about a dead mother board but the fans and the LED on the mother board are OK? This is a classic eMachines problem. Their power supplies glitch and take out the mother board sometimes the power supply goes bad too.
