No battery life

My A550 reads "low battery," and won't perform, even when I put in brand new batteries. Is this fixable?

My mom and I are both having the identical problem - we have a kodak. It doesn't matter what kind of batteries I stick in it - battery life is low, orange light glows and it isn't long til the power is down and out.

I'm using brand new rechargeable NiMH batteries with 2700 mah but the same problem still come to me...I dont think it is the batteries problem but the camera itself... Is there any other solution for this?

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

I have exactly the same problem. Brand new 2700 mAh NiMH batteries, but when turning on the camera shows the battery sign and shuts itself off. Sometimes it works after starting it up a few times.

I have the same problem now. I will check Canon's support website.

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some brands may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Walmart sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

heeey, i discovered the problem all by myself. the same like you, i had problm with battery, i just bought new sony battery and still says to change battery. an then, like a curious kid i removed the little battery from the AA battery compartiment. and now the battery signal is ok and and it doesent say anymore to change battery.so all we need to do is buy that little flat battery that ussualy keeps the settings and the date and hour on your cam. so i hope it will solve ur problem
PS. that's why says all the time CHANGE BATTERY, because that one is battery too

Put in new batteries. It will turn on and then stay on for about 1 second and then goes black. Help. I have the kodak easy share c183

Depending of what you use, always be sure all batteries are the same, charged and suited for your camera. Most of the time even new Ni-CD rechargeable batteries won't work, because the voltage is to low, according to Ni-MH or alkaline batteries.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in your camera.

Low battery all the time

this is not a good signal. you can make this prove. clean the internal camera contact with a specific contact spray and one cotton fioc
ore you can use normal denaturated alcohol. this is one possibilty. if you dont have any betterment. its probably that the camera have a eletronic defekt. this is not so uncommon with old camera. the camera have internal fuse the works not good and gives this problem. motherboard defekt. good luck i hope for you that is only a dirty contact faulty.

Canon a550 reads low battery even when i put in new batteries

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

New batteries but it still won't turn on.

Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Worst performers of all are those "Heavy Duty" batteries. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though brand new, right out of the package, may even have problems just powering startup of the camera.

Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Avoid NiMH batteries like the plague that do not list the power rating on the package or batteries. These are generally very inferior, low power rated rechargeable batteries.

I recommend to all my customers with AA battery life issues to try Energizer Lithium AA's. Virtually all battery issues solved. I think alkaline batteries are being manufactured poorly, these days, so even brand new they aren't great.

Camera says brand new batteries are dead, then shuts down

It is possible that the batteries are dead (they might be faulty or too old) even when they are out of the package, though unlikely. Try another set of batteries, and if these don't work, you'll probably have to send it for a checkup.
