I think the problem didn't come from the television. Maybe the disc is too hard to play, this usually happen when we play an original CD or DVD. Or your CD/DVD player already broken so it can't spin the disc.
is it a burned disk? if so your dvd player might not be able to play that type of dvd... i know sometimes also scratched ones won't play at all as well... of course also make sure everything is plugged in correctly and if it does this with more different dvds then there's something wrong with the player itself... which i hope is not the case as those are very difficult to fix yourself
double check if it really is a dvd and not a vcd, the latest dvd players only play real dvd's so not the ones you make at home by downloading movies and burning them on empty cd's

If you are playing STANDARD CD or regular DVD that you have purchase and you are having this problem, your dvd player is malfunction;however,if you are playing DVD burner disc or a different dvd region disc(we are region 1 in U.S.) that is no going to work.Same thing for your CD burner disc,it might not work. If you are using a rental dvd disc, check and see if there is scratches? If so,try to get one without that many scratches! Joe
