I had a problem with my old H.R. 520 going off and as I recall, it was volume related. There was some deal that protected blowing speakers as I recall. Are your speakers and wires good? See if it happens when its turned completely down when you turn it on. If it stays on, then I think you're on the right track. If you have small speakers, see if it does the same thing hooked up to bigger speakers. I can't remember how I solved it. Just a suggestion. Good luck

Place the receiver on Standby mode so that the Power Indicator turns amber. Press and hold the front-panel Tun mode Button for at least 5 seconds until the receiver goes on and a reset message appears in the display.

Whenever I turn on my receiver, it stays on for a few seconds, then switches off.

Sound like a semi-component is faulty within the unit you need to get it serviced. Does it indicate any thing on the LCD when powering up before it dies ?

Without speakers hooked up when you turn it on it kicks off within a few seconds what should i do to fix the problen

You didn't mention this but I assume it was working with speakers and then failed? If so, then a module near the output has probably failed and the power supply is shutting down for protection. Without a simple multimeter and a little knowledge you probably won't be able to repair this yourself.

It is not a fuse problem, when a fuse is gone does not start at all.
It is probably the final amp circuit, there is a faulty IC in there that overheats after few seconds and the unit goes off by itself.

I turn it on, it clicks off within a few seconds.

can you be more specific as to "plastic tabs that show signs of slight melting"? Like where are they in relation to components / power supply / heatsinks / power transformer? A first shot... it may be output power fets/transistors (one is open or shorted) that is making one or more of the speaker outputs go to the PS rail. DC shutdown. Does this receiver indicate any "overtemp" or "protect" warnings? I really need a little more specifics.
