Question about Maytag PAV2300 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Loose Agitator I have a Maytag Performa. The agitator comes totally off and is floating at the top of the washer. I stop the washer and put it back on - turning it couter-clockwise until I feel like it catches and turn the machine back on. Within moments, the agitator is floating again. How can I secure the agitator? Thanks, Laura

The agitator has come loose and will not stay on. There is no bolt holding it on! It looks as if it should snop on but the plastic won't hold.

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.

I have a Maytag performa it works well but has developed a fault in that the agitator rides up and floats on its own when washing!

If you check toward the lower end of the agitator there should be a screw which is supposed to hold it in place. It may have come loose or come out altogether. Fixing it will stop the agitator floating up.

I have a Maytag performer series machine, the main agitator is screwed down properly but the corkscrew agitatorthat is attachedto the main agitator completely cuts loose and floats to the top , i don"t...

With the Maytag Performa series, the auger is held by a pressure fit only - no screws. Mine failed after about 6 years. There is no (easy) way to repair this problem. The top auger does not stay attached to the post, and it floats off the post while washing... I ended up ordering a new one from the Sears 1-800 number. Easy to replace, and it comes with both the post and auger. Costs about $110, but certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new machine. The part does not come with the top cap for fabric softener, so be sure to save the old one. You do need a fairly long extension for your ratchet wrench to unscrew the attached bolt, but it is fairly easy to do.

Maytag Performa washer Waterlevel/agitator problem

CHECK your stand pipe hasn't fell over (the one the drain hose goes to when emptying)If not,Either the pressure switch is broke or there is a hole or split in the pressure switch rubber hose. This switch stops the water when it reaches required level.

Maytag won't spin or agitate

I have had the same problem and found that the teeth on the under side of the agitator had been worn down to nothing... I assume this is from years of over loading (not from me) and so the agitator could not spin any more... i would tighten the bolt that holds th agitator on and it would come loose after a few loads. So my solution was to get a little bit longer bolt and newer plastic washer and tighten it as tight as i could and it seemed to work. Versus buying a new agitator base that would cost about $20-$30 and would have to wait for the part to be ordered. hope this helps
