What the error means:

The 994 Density Error indicates that the printer's system card has encountered an unrecoverable error.

What to do:

This error normally requires a service call. However, on certain rare occasions, such as a power fluctuation or a stray static discharge in the vicinity of the printer, can cause a false 994 Density Error message to appear. In such cases, the error is only temporary and can be easily resolved without service. Follow the steps in the table to check.

Step Action
1 Power the printer off, wait ten seconds, and then power the printer back on.

Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Print a test page. If the page prints, the printer is functioning correctly.

2 If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a grounded wall outlet. In rare instances, a surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) can generate false error messages.

Yes: Continue to 'Contacting Lexmark' below.
No: Print a test page. If the page prints, the printer is functioning correctly

turn off the printer and check all cable connections.
turn on the printer, you need to call lexmark service, if the error return.

Hello,

Try unplugging the machine and removing all the ink cartridges.
Now plug the power back in. Wait a minute or two and then reinsert the ink cartridges.

If you get the same message, the machine's ink sensors are probably finished.

"981 Service Switch Error"


981 service switch error refers to BUD(belt up/down) clutch if the error essage is hard. it could be possible that someone could have playes with white CAM below the tranfer belt(behind the waste toner box) if you suspect that the cam was manually rotated, then you are in a big FIX. if not then it could be just a problem with the cam being worn out. in this scenario you cannot remove or reset the transfer belt as you normally do it. there is a special procedure to remove the transfer belt. try the following.

remove the waste toner box., fool the front door of the printer so that you can watch the transfer belt moving up/down. while you have the fron door open,
Turn off the printer, press and hold the go and return buttons on the printer , keep watching the shaft that show the position of the belt, once it moves, be fast enough to turn off the printer. If you were successful in this procedure , you can remove the belt from the printer without any problem. Make sure not to touch the white cam shaft. visually examine the internal mechanism of the shaft, if it is wornout replace it.

IF the white cam was turned manually then you might have to replace the BUD clutch.. which is the most difficult process in this machine....Wish you all the best.

Lexmark C912 not reporting toner properly


print the status page make sure the revision level in the lower right corner is greater than 803.04 if its not go to lexmark to update the code if it is greater than. press the right arrow until reset toner Lvl appears in the display press select. use the right arrow to scroll through the colors to be reset. when you get tot the color you want to reset hit select it should give a brief message resseting toner then move to the next one. when finished you will need to power the machine down and back on again before the changes will take effect.
