Laars LJ 175 Hot Surface ignition Problem

My pool heater blows the two in-line fuses on the igniter when it tries to start heating. I have installed a new igniter and the same thing happens.

Sounds like a board problem.has it been working and this a sudden problem or is it a new heater that you are trying to put into operation?

When turn on the pool heater, it blows are then I smell gas before it kicks on

If it has a pilot, it is not adjusted close enough to the burner, so a delay in ignition. If it is an electric ignition a similar situation exists.

sounds like the controller (board/coils) that send voltage to the heat coil is acting up.trace the wire from the heat coil back to the component.make sure the ground wire (green) is grounded to a clean surface.

My Laars 2 lite pool heater will not ignite, I have the same problem every year for the first ignition. The pilot is lit. I removed the filter to make sure it is not the pressure.

you might need to bleed the line to get fuel to the heater core. If there is a bubble in the line it will prevent the heater from working. Usually, there is a bleeder valve on the heater unit -- unscrew this and let some of the fuel drain out (into a container) and give it another shot. It should light right up after bleeding the line. If the fuel that you took out of the bleeder valve looks clean, you can then put it back in the fuel tank and it should be fine.
If this is a natural gas heater, there will be no bleeder valve -- you should have it looked at by a professional repair person. Natural gas is very dangerous and should only be repaired by a qualified professional to avoid serious injury or death.

The furnace goes on but turns off.Its not even 2 yrs since its been put it.I changed the batteries in the thermostat.what should i do??

This sounds to me like your hot surface igniter has burned out. shortly after the induction moter starts you should see a bright glow in the heat exchanger; if you dont you need to change the igniter. In most cases the blower moter will come on and blow cold air, this is a default setting.

When calling for heat, no flame, burner doesn't attempt to ignite, blower starts after about 30 seconds blowing cold air.

If the unit has a induced draft motor on it it then it shoul turn on first when stat is calling for heat. If it does so then in about 30-45 seconds the igniter whether hot surface or spark should try to light pilot. If this is not happening then you probably need to replace the igniter. Hope this helps. Thank you

I have a R-150. starts runs and fames out in 30 seconds and continues to blow fuel for about 20 to 30 seconds and then I assume flame sensor shuts it down. Im thinking ignition coil. Any ideas. Thanx

What usually causes that is the ignition component is not hot enough to sustain a hot enough temperature to keep the fuel burning some have a spark ignition some have a hot surface ignition, try replacing it and it should work fine.

Reddy heat/scheu kerosene space heater no ignition

Typical kero heater uses either a spark ignition or a hot surface. The hot surface igniter is very fragile. A small bump may break the elements. Flame is detected by a photocell, signal is sent to the lockout relay board. Change the igniter costs about 50 bucks.
