Question about Asko Dryers

There is a strong, acrid smell coming from the dryer when in operation. It appears to be originating inside the drum as the clothes and inside of the machine have the strongest smell.

Odors that come from a dryer usually originate from a foreign source. Dryers move a large volume of air when in operation and can draw odors from long distances. Some examples are:

1. Foreign object left in a clothing item pocket.
2. Fresh paint, cleaning solvents, etc. used in other rooms
3. Wild animals entering through the exterior vent. (rare)

Investigate these ideas:

Check all pockets, cuffs,etc.

Has there been some redecorating going on the past few days/weeks?

Have you washed any rags containing cleaning solvents?

Is your lint filter damaged, chewed on,etc.?

You don't mention any abnormal noises in your complaint, but very rarely a mechanical/electrical anomaly could cause an odor, but only briefly as it would then have a tendency to malfunction,

There's a slight burning smell coming from the dryer drum.

Some item may have gotten between the drum that rotates and the housing and during the rolling of the drum this item may be heating up from the friction. Check closely to see if you can find anything rubbing on the drum.

Odor

Hi,
If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum. Also, if there are any solvents, paints, lacquers, etc. in use in the house, your dryer may alter and/or amplify the fumes to an odor unlike the natural fumes given by the solvent, paint, etc.
Here's what to do:
  1. First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.
  2. Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer.
  3. Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.

There is a strong oil smell in the dryer

If you have recently painted or varnished inside your home the fumes in the air can create a hydrocarbon type smell in your dryer. This should stop as soon as the house is aired out.

Burning smell during drying cycle, coming from the inside back left grate. The grate appears discolored.

Usually when a gas dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat . Dryer smells of natural gas

Of course, this applies to gas dryers only. If you smell natural gas near your gas dryer, do not light matches or a lighter and don't operate electrical switches or anything that might spark, igniting an explosion. Immediately shut off the gas valve that serves the dryer. If the smell is mild, ventilate the area, wait until the air is clear, and re-light your pilot light. If the smell is strong, move everyone outside, leaving the doors open to ventilate the house. Turn off the gas supply valve --located by the gas meter on the gas inlet pipe-- by rotating the valve one quarter turn with an adjustable wrench. The valve's oblong stem should be perpendicular (at a right angle) to the inlet pipe to stop the flow of gas. Call your gas supplier (or the fire department) from a neighbor's phone or a cellular phone outside the house.
