Actionscript to playback to a certain frame

you need to make sure that your button is a button not a movie clip.
then enter the following:
on (release) {
//Movieclip GotoAndStop Behavior
_root.gotoAndStop("5");
//End Behavior

}

were it says 5 change to another frame number also change stop to play if you want it to auto play.

Try action script 2.0 it is easier to use:

First click on your symbol and got the behaviors menu
Then click the + symbol movie clip goto and stop or play
then click absolute and type in the frame you want

CS3 Action Scripting - How do i get buttons to link to scenes?

it looks crazy but AS 3.0 is too easy and takes half of the time what you took to learn flash AS 2.0 . Button Script in AS 2.0 is like below and you were able to put the script in buttons/movieClip
on(release){
whatTodo();
}
but in as3.0 only you can use frames to add script and must use listeners for buttons. like
buttonName.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,dothis);
function dothis(evt:Event){
do_this_function();
}
evt:Event is must. it is passing the event object when u click on button.

Flash action scripting 3

you should learn actionscript 3! :)
Actionscript is a object-oriented scripting language.
It is based on ECMAscript (Javascript), so if you know Javascript, it could be easier to understand and learn actionscript. But there are differences, that come with flash. Using scenes and time-lines to handle graphics is something specific of actionscript. on adobe website, there is a good library with information on how to use actionscript. Best is to learn it from a book.

On button click change images in flash

I would suggest looking into learning ActionScript 1.0/2.0/3.0. ActionScript is Flash's main scripting language. It's easy to learn, easy to use, and very modular for Flash.

Action script

I tried your script and it all checked out fine when I ran it. Make sure you click on the first frame of layer action and open the Action Script Panel (F9). Once this is accomplished. Click on the second frame of layer action and press F6 key. Like I said everything worked out when I tried using the script you posted so, if anything I would suggest starting from scratch.
