The inner cover is inside and just above where the paper comes out after you make a print or copy.  Reach in and flip the grey bar up to close.

You are exactly correct. The confusing thing is that this "gray" plastic bar is not always gray. My bar is black. When my wife put in some more ink she moved this black (gray) plastic flap or bar down. This creates an error saying the inner cover is open. When the black or gray flap or bar in front of the ink is correctly "up" you can see the silver color roller bar that spits the paper out. Ift the flap or bar is down you can't see it. So filp it up and you are ready to gol.

AFTER REPLACING THE CARTRIDGES THAT WERE LOW ON INK, IT KEEPS SAYING TO CLOSE THE COVER.  I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT COVER THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AS I THINK ALL THE COVERS ARE CLOSED TIGHT.  THIS PRINTER HAS  BEEN THE BIGGEST PROBLEM, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW CANON GETS AWAY WITH MAKING YOU REPLACE EACH INK BEFORE THE PRINTER WILL WORK. IF YOU WANT TO USE JUST BLACK, SHOULDN'T YOU BE ABLE TO?

I had the exact same problem with my brand new MP610, and I finally just turned it off and back on. That appears to have worked.

Turning it off and on didn't work after all. On my MP610, you have to look inside from the front of the printer to see the inner cover. It's a cover you have to open to install ink cartridges. It took me a while to figure it out on my printer too. They'd save a lot of headaches by putting a small identifying label on the inner cover.

The inner cover is in the front of the printer in the place the paper out if you print is small

I had the same problem also, I found that the issue was the flap in front of the printer catridges, just below, I had lowered it when loading the cartridges and forgot to raise it back up.

You are exactly correct. In front of the ink cartridges is a black or gray plastic flap or bar about 2 1/2 inches high and 6 or 7 inches wide. If this flap or bar is flipped down while replacing ink and not flipped back up to the up position you will get this "innner cover open error". If the flap is down you can not see the silver colored bar that spits the paper out. If the flap or bar is correctly up, you can see the silver metal bar that spits the paper out. Good Luck. I encounter this problem lately.I print a cd label then this problem appeared,I noticed that the printing set-up was wrong,I set the printer into "AUTO SHEET FEEDER" instead of setting it to "PRINTABLE DISC". All i can suggest is to check your printing setup properly.

The inner cover (flap in front of cartridges) is closed but the following sign keeps reappearing "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok".

When the message shows means inner cover sensor is faulty so it cannot detect inner cover state correctly. Try to clean the contact sensor with contact cleaner is good idea since it sometimes an oxidation occurs. Many times I success fix the problem like this.
