Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

Dropped camera in pool

I dropped my camera in the pool for probably one second. It was off and I took out the batteries and memory card out as soon as possible and didn't turn it on yet. It's been about 6 hours, but I'm waiting 24 hours to try to turn it on again. What should I do? Is my camera okay?

If it does not fire up, I would dunk it again - this time in warmed, distilled water, moving it around a bit, then putting it in a warm (not hot) place to dry but I would probably give it a week.
Distilled water is non-conductive whereas pool water is . . . who knows?

Camera won't read memory card anymore but card works on other devices. It used to read before but suddenly doesn't I don't know why.. Camera is not broken and never been dropped,,

The only way to be sure the card is not damaged and the camera is, try to format the card (AFTER SAVING ALL PICTURES ON THE CARD FIRST) in the camera. Cameras can be very picky what format, or what device did the format.
It should be a second nature, to format a memory card every time it is used in an otter device and after you place it back in the camera.

Then a camera does not to be dropped to be broken. There are lots of other reasons it can become damaged. Like pressing in a memory card in, the wrong way around. Leaving in bad batteries, for a long time. Exposing it to extreme heat. (in summer in a car behind the windscreen) or extreme cold. Exposure to damp or water. and so on and so on.
I hope the formatting will bring relief.

The camera was on/lens out when my son dropped the camera. Since then when I try to turn it on it opens but immediately closes. Any ideas?

This is a long shot, remove battery and the memory card, press power and hold for 30 seconds to drain off any residual charge. Now put the battery and memory card back in and press power, if it works the camera has managed to reset itself, if this fails probably cheaper to replace it.

My son dropped his Polaroid i532 camera after

many ideas! But they all lead to the bank! you either repair ( expensive) or throw it in the bin. You could try a claim on your insurance. But it would depend on the excess you might have to pay to justify the value of a repair

Dropped my camera in a pool of water in a glacier 12 months ago. I immediately took out the battery and memory card. I then spent 2 hours with a hair dryer drying the camera. Since then the camera has...

There is no relation between the two incidents that you explained. The recent problem might have occurred due to damaging of the lens. MY solution is to replace the objective lens ( lens assembly) and the motor ( if needed ). If it costs much, then go for a new one, since digital camera with high pixels rates are available cheaply now a days.

Camera wont work when memory card is inserted

I suggest you try to use a different memory card. If it doesn't happen again then it's probably a bad memory card.
