If just the top portion of the agitator does not work, you are likely looking at and agitator dog problem. Yes, it's a silly name for the part, but that is what it says right on the manufactures replacement part. While you are in there, I would also recommend replacing your thrust spacer as well as they get brittle over time. So, once you have part numbers 80040 (agitator dogs) and 8055228 (thrust spacer), here's how to swap them out. First remove your fabric softner dispenser. It should have a blueish/ green ring around it. The ring locks it in place. Lift the ring and the dispenser will lift off. Next, as you look down under where the dispenser was, you will see clear plastic with a black rubber ring around it. There are 2 tabs sticking out of the top of it, just grab these (needle nose pliers would make it easier) and pull it up. Under that you will find a bolt (7/16" if I remember correctly) Remove the bolt and the whole agitator can lift out now. If only the top half comes off, don't worry about it. the bottom half can stay without a problem. As a matter of fact, the thrust spacer sits between the 2 halves. Now, the area where the bolt came out is a seperate piece. It may or may not be held in by two white plastic tabs at the bottom. If it is, just work the tabs off with a small flat head screwdriver. Once this piece is seperated, you will now see your agitator dogs. There is a ring holding them on from the bottom. Slide the ring off and replace all 4 dogs. Wipe any extra fabric softner and shavings from the previous dogs out. Re-assemble in reverse.

Washer will not adgitate during wash cycle. what may i look for to try and fix ?

What is the model and model number of the unit? It could be the transmission or the coupling between the motor and transmission. On some models it can even be the lid switch

Why agitator not trning in kenmore washing machine?

If the spin cycle works, but the unit only fails to aggitate......the problem is most likely a clutch or transmission problem. If the unit neither spins or aggitates, you could have a broken belt or even a defective lid switch. Sometimes a model will have broken dogs, or cogs in the aggitator base. To check this, with the machine off..reach into the machine tub..grab the aggitaror and try to turn it manually by hand. If you can turn it and also feel a sensation such as a gear slipping or teeth not properly taking hold or meshing, the cogs or dogs may need to be replaced that are under the aggitator itself. Best Wishes

My machine will just stop after the adgitate cycle.

Manually turn the knob to the spin cycle and turn it on.
If it does not spin, replace the lid switch.

If it does spin, replace the timer.

Nothing else needs to be removed. place the agitator on the floor, step on the sides of the bottom of the agitator, grab the top section of the agitator and pull, the sections will separate. hope this helps.

Washing machine not draining

If you are confident you can do it pull your pump off washing machine and pull the pump houseing apart most will come apart and make sure there is nothing in the pump maybe a small piece of plastic or other item in it. you could also try taking the hoses off the pump and just flush water through it backwards this will also sometimes work I have come across this a lot and normally it is something in the pump interupting the water flow. There may also be sand or small pebbles in the drain holes under the adgitator if flushing the pump doesn't help check under the adgitator for something in the holes. Hope this helps
