Frost forming around ice dispenser inside side by side Fridge
I have a Kenmore model #556924 and have had numerous problems with the ice maker. For the past couple of months I have had the biggest problem with frost forming inside the freezer ONLY around the ice dispenser chute. Any suggestions on what it could be and if it is an easy repair?
Every now and then I have problems with it only dispensing crushed ice, even when the indicator says that cubes are selected.

The presence of frost indicates that the dispenser(ice) probrably isn't
closing all the way once you get ice. This allows warm air to rise up,
condense and form frost. In all likelihood the solenoid that controls
the opening and closing is bad and needs to be replaced.

Not familiar with this model but the duct from ice bin throw too the dispenser on similar models generally are fitted with a internal heater(wrap around heater) inside the duct to stop snow/frost buildup - I'd be looking for a power cicuit in that area - trace it back to the ducting area
most likely the defrost heater behind the panel thats frosted up is burned out so it cant defrost the unit,g.e. is notorious for this, remove this panel inside the freezer and remove 2 screws at the bottom of the evaporator coil holding the heater to the evaporator and unplug it the new part number is g.e. hi debie normaly the life of these ice maker range from 3 to 4 years then the wtr hardness eats them up and the mold start leaking wtr but if is a fairly new model the you have a faulty wtr vale that is not closing sending wtr all the time to the ice maker repl the ice maker is you see is peeling of the texture inside if it is ok repl the valve
There are many parts in this component that may be the culprit . One or more will need to be replaced. This is not easy to diagnose. I've seen service order parts 2 or 3 times till they completed the ice maker repair on a side by side fridge! Usually it is outside air leaking ever so slightly through the ice door hatch! Even for the experienced teach some times he may have to try a couple of part replacements, because it is not always visible with the eye! If I were there hands on it would be fixed and better now!
You need a hands on tech for this repair!
Below I referred you to a great service nation wide! They only charge $75. around here, too! Which is a very good service charge as things go around the country!
