I have a GE top loading washing machine. Model #wjrr4170gww. I need to replace the belt and can't seem to get the belt on. I know it is a tight fit, but my question is what is the trick to get it on.

Dear Customer,

To replace the drive belt, you will need to open the access panel or in some cases tip the washer onto its side to expose the belt on the bottom. Start by removing the back cover, and look for a belt. If you do not see a belt (or a place for a belt - the belt itself may have broken and is hidden from view) and you can see the floor then your washer is a direct drive model that does not use a belt.
If you cannot see the floor because there is a steel floor in the washer, locate the motor and determine if it extends through the bottom plate. If so, then the belt is accessed from beneath the washer.
If you have to tip the washer over, place a large piece of cardboard on the floor to protect the floor and the washer's finish. Because a washer is pretty heavy, you will need an able-bodied assistant to safely tip the washer onto its side.
Also, there will be some water remaining in the washer, so have sponges and towels ready to clean up any spill.
To remove the old belt unscrew the clamps securing the pump coupling ( a leathery or rubber flexible part that connects the motor to the water pump). Remove the pump coupling to slip the old belt out. Some models instead require you to loosen the motor mounting bolts and shift it inward to relieve tension on the belt. Remove the old belt.
Place the new belt over the transmission pulley first then place it over the motor pulley. If it is too tight, place the belt over the motor pulley's nearest edge and then slowly turn the motor pulley to pull the belt around and into the pulley. Replace the pump coupling or tighten the motor mounting bolts. The belt should deflect no more than one half inch when you press on the longest straight run.Replace the cover and test the washer for proper operation.

Thank You for using Fixya.. Good Luck!!

Ge wjrr4170gww will agitate empty but not with water

Agitator coupling is usually the problem. Remove agitator (just pull it up hard) and replace the part under it, it costs just a few bucks, part number WH43X10032, Repairclinic.com should have pictures of the part if you enter the part number in the search box.

Good luck!

Install belt on Amana top load washing machine

Use the correct sized belt!!

Loosen the Motor mounting Bolts. ( Do not take it off ) Now the motor assembly can be moved towards the opposite large pulley.

Replace the belt in this position and slide the motor to it's original position. You adjust it in such away so that, the belt is not too tight or loose!

BAD LID SWITCH

This MANUAL shows how. What you must do is remove the front panel. It is kinda tricky. Use a thin blade to release clips between the top and front panel then tip the front panel towards you and lift it out yer way. Then you can remove the screws holding down the top and get to the switch.

I want to know how to change the belt in my ge washing machine . g.e. model # gw983k i seem to ger a burning smell when it starts up with a heavy load.

Remove the front cover of the washer by sliding a screw driver to release the clips.
Loosen the 4 nuts that hold the drive belt motor
Push the motor back to release the drive belt.
Replaced the new drive belt.
Pull motor until drive belt was snug and tighted the 4 bolts.
At the same time, replace the 4 tub dampening straps located at the top of the tub (if too old) so the unit looks like new.
GOOD LUCK!
