Question about PC Desktops

Samsung 740n monitor gives dulled picture for about 2 seconds with a whitenoise sound then instantly fades to a ghost image behind a black foreground with no whitenoise. When I press the standby button to turn it off then turn it on again, same problem.

Computer is on and screen goes black but the sounds and everything is still working

The monitor on this is an LCD, not an LED monitor. The symptoms you are describing are classic fluorescent backlight failure symptoms. It seems a bit early in life for that to occur, as most failure after 2-3 years of use. To determine if the backlight has failed, after booting the system, look at the screen at very close range at an angle. If you can see what looks like a ghost image of what should be on the display, then the video chip is providing video to the display, but the backlight isn't illuminating it. Repair or replace the monitor.

I turn on my hp pavillon all in one ms225 and sounds like its powering up fan is running but nothing on my screen please help

Hi
I have just joined Fixya because I have a similar issue with a samsung 740n monitor. From reading through the site here I would advise you in the first instance to shine a torch at the screen and see if you can see any of what you would normally expect to see on screen with the help of the bright light. Dont shine it directly at the screen but at an angle approximately 45 degrees and keep moving it around. If you do see images or desktop stuff etc behind the black of the glass it is apparently an indication of a failing inverrter and knowing that you can do a further search on here to get instructions for your particular monitor.
That is what I am about to do now as I have been following advice but need to know what to do next so it may be worth following my first question as I am hopeful that I will get help and you might be able to use the same info.

Hi my acer4920 screen goes ghostly after seconds, i move it, it goes back to normal for 3seconds and go ghostly again, Black mould like appearence appears. help please

Sounds like the VGA cable has gotten kinked. Try to hold the cable in the best position for color and if it lasts while your holding it, thats the problem. They can be a pain to replace, might be new monitor time or warranty.

Dark screen with dull image in background

You may need to check your desktop image for your monitor and change it to something lighter
The external monitor usually uses your computer's default and not ncessarily the one from your laptop monitor

Without taking it apart myself, it could be some wiring from the laptop to the screen

Sounds a lot like the backlight for it is just about dead. Nothing you've done can cause this to happen, and it certainly isn't a setting on the monitor or PC.

The backlight can be bought as a part, and replaced by a technician (or yourself if you have a rough idea what you're doing). By the time you find one, buy it, ship it, fit it... it might not be worth your time for the cost of a new 21" widescreen monitor.

You'd probably recoup some loss by selling it as faulty for parts too.

Still, be 100% sure before you do it... borrow a monitor and plug it in. I bet the borrowed monitor won't behave the same way. =-]

Its more or less your monitor has gone bad.
To check the same , unplug the monitor from the computer , a slef test feature check would be displayed . Check if the monitor goes blank or shows ghost lines . If yes the monitor is bad. If you have got the system before 12 Dec 2005 its generaly covered under 3 yrs warranty. If purchased after that , it would have your system warranty
