Where can i find a remote, or is there a compatible universal remote?

You don't say what is the make and model, but there are many remotes for sale on eBay, where I have bought 2 replacements. Also the Logitech Harmony series of universal remotes should be suitable. I have one and it works quite well. There are other brands also.

Need a remote for it

You can purchase this:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-300i-Remote-Control/dp/B003IZFCFW/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1298870275&sr=8-11
It is a Logitech Harmony 300i remote. You can program it to use with your panasonic receiver, and can retain all functionality, just as if you had the real remote.

Neither my Harmon remote or my Logitech universal

Use the help function on your Logitech remote.
Need more information on specific problem to go much further.
Check for tight speaker connections on back of receiver.
Some units have fault sensing; causing 'drop out' preventing A/V receiver from turning out. Typically this is characterised by a clicking sound after receiving an IR signal.
Using high volume levels can affect speaker connections, especially at the back of the A/V unit connectors and banana speaker wire connections.

Denon AVR 1609 volume Zone 2

Logitech recommends that zone 2 is controlled using device mode on your Harmony remote. Controlling zone 1 and zone 2 simultaneously within activities may lead to the AV Receiver turning on and off unexpectedly as you switch between activities. For example, if you try to turn on zone 2 within an activity, it may turn on or off zone 1 and vice versa. Controlling zone 2 in device mode will prevent this from happening.

Universal remote

Try a Logitech Harmony remote. I have sold many to several customers and am yet to see a piece of equipment it won't run. They range from $60 to $2000. All the generic universal remotes are useless and never run things properly.

No manual

Make sure you have audio out from TV plugged into receiver. I have both Logitech 520 and JVC. It could also be in your setup of the remote.
