  • scvje_armstr Nov 18, 2008

I also have same problem - happened all of a sudden. It looks like a problem with the shutter since all the other functions/ menus etc. seem to work OK. Anyway no good to take pictures, so camera is rubbish. Does anybody know how to fix this problem. Is it a big warranty job or not ?

You can try to reset the camera back to the orginal settings - that worked for my camera for a few days but now its back to being black.

to restore to factory settings - take battery out - hold the power button down for a few seconds and then put the battery back in.

Carecenter@cits.canon.com Go here to report this problem. There is a recall for this problem with the CCD Sensor affecting the LCD image. Or call 1-800-828-4040.

SOURCE: Camera shows black in picture mode

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/05/simple-fix-for-stuck-shutter.html

Blackness?

Have you tried reading the instructions? How long did you buy it? Try to press the pad or stick like a button inwards. That is how I get the image to go on my digital camera. Did it work?

Turn on camera but the lcd sceen is black

Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.

Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.

If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....
