You can replace it. Take the cover off. Unplug the two sets of cables - one for power supply and the other flat gray cable. Remove the screws and put the new one. Plug the cables back.

I have a USB floppy disk drive that is not working in my pc

Windows 10 does not have floppy disk drive support for internally installed floppy drives. USB drives should work. I have a TEAC external that works just fine with WIN 10.

Can a failed bios update be recovered?

Do you have a floppy drive in this PC? From what I've found you you *may* be able to fix it, but it will more than likely require a floppy drive and a disk. Also, you would need another computer to be able to get the files prepared for the floppy disk, and that computer also would need a floppy drive.

In a nutshell, you would use the 2nd PC to make yourself a boot disk, then put the boot disk in the broke PC and turn it on. In theory, if all goes will, it will read the disk and restore the BIOS.
But you may have to change some files on the disk so it will boot to the BIOS recovery program.

If you do have a floppy drive in the dead PC, turn it on and see if the floppy drive light comes on at all. If it does, then the computer is trying to access the floppy drive, which may allow it to read a disk. You will stand a better chance of getting any recovery to work.

Hi, your Windows XP install CD doesn't have SATA drivers for the hard drive included, so it's not able to address your hard drive. You can't disable SATA in the BIOS to make it work since your hard drive is still SATA. You'll need to get a 3.5" floppy disk and drive if your laptop doesn't have one. They make external 3.5" USB floppy drives that will work.

1. download the SATA drivers for your laptop (iastor.sys and inf)
2. copy the drivers to your floppy disk (about 6-7 files)
3. plug the floppy drive into your laptop
4. boot to the Windows XP CD
5. as soon as the installation starts, it asks you to "Press F6 to specify RAID or controller drivers" - Press F6 now
6. When setup asks for it, point it to the floppy drive
7. Installation will continue and find your SATA hard drive

Ta-da! Rock on with your bad self.

NOT FORMATTED

The error means 3 things:

1. Files format of the files saved on the Floppy disk is not readable on the OS or does not comply with the file format of the OS. So you really need to format it.

2. The floppy disk is brand new and you need to format it first.

3. The floppy disk is not working. Try a known working floppy disk.

you can purchase locally a usb floppy drive and download some small utilities in the internet that can be fit in the floppy disk, but i suggest that better use memory stick because it is cheaper and you can have more space than floppy disk.

Well, the first step in any problem of this nature is to narrow down the problem. We have three main things in effect here, and we need to know which one has the problem before we can fix it. First, the disk itself. Try other disks and make sure the disk is not faulty. Second, the usb ports. Try other devices in your usb ports to ensure they are installed and configured properly. If all of those work, it is narrowed down to the floppy drive itself. If it does not work on any pc's at all, then it definately has a problem, and I would suggest contacting SmartDisk technical support.
