Hit by Lightning

My Acer Aspire computer got struck by lighting and it fried the motherboard and possibly the processor. The problem I am encountering is I can not seem to find another motherboard that is compatiable. The model is Acer Aspire T135. Any suggestions on where to look online or a store that might carry a motherboard that would work with this system?
Thanks in advance

No Mother board is compatable.
The Motherboard and hard drive are paired and cannothe be replaced.
The best thing to do is to buy a new computer and use the Harddrive as a slave on the new one.

I have an Acer X1200. I hit the power button and nothing... no fans, no lights no noise. Is this a simple fix?

The power supply is most likely the problem, it is self contained in a metal shield with a fan and B+ cables to tie into the motherboard and hardware. The repair is simple but attention must be given or you could end up frying the motherboard. In one rare case I found the on/off switch defective in a desktop, but that is extremely rare.

I have an Acer Aspire x1200, when I press the power button, only the fan goes on, power button does not even light up..' Thanks

their r a few possible solutions the first thing i would chk is which fan is on , processor or power supply, or both. if no processor fan, processor/motherboard may b burnt or . chk for loose connections.. if your screen image is black u may have fried the board, if blue then it would b a hardware issue..

How to Open a case

Acer Aspire RC900?

1) Computer off, unplug the power cable from the surge protector. Now unplug it from the computer (Power Supply)

(Unplugging the power cord from the back of the computer, while still plugged into the surge protector, may cause a voltage spike.

This could result in frying out the Power Supply, and may also fry out the Motherboard, Processor, Ram Memory, and Graphics)

2) Viewing the Acer Aspire RC900 from the Front, the Left side panel, is the panel that removes.

3) Viewing the Acer Aspire RC900 from the rear, look at the right side. (Left side actually, but now the computer is turned around)

There is a Cover Release Latch that is close to the outside edge, and towards the top.

It is whitish in color, and approximately 1-1/2 finger digits long, and half a finger digit wide.
(Universal measurement I figure. Using the Inch system it is approximately 1-1/2 inches long, and 1/2 inch wide)

Pull this Cover Release Latch to the right. (Towards the bottom of the computer if it were standing up)

You will see that this side cover, has a formed shape that you can put your fingers in, to pull the side cover towards the rear of the computer.

Pull the side cover back towards the rear of the computer to remove it.

Advise:

Your body carries Static electricity,
Static can fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Touch the metal frame of the open computer case BEFORE you reach inside, to relieve your body of Static.
(Not shouting)

If you get up, walk away, then return, Touch the metal frame again.

Computer unplugged from power, you are safe.
Touch the metal frame of the open computer case, your computer is safe.

Have any more questions concerning this, I'm right here. Please post in a Comment.

Motherboard Dater

Hello. To get date and version:

The only BIOS upgrade I find listed for that model (T160 Aspire) on Acer Website for the Aspire T160 Desktop is:

Acer BIOS R02-B1 868.5 KB 2008/12/09.

If you received your computer before that date and you have not added a new BIOS flash to your PC since that time, you can be sure you do not have it. http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ Search their site by your full Serial Number if possible, and then model number to be most certain.

Other options:
When first turning computer on, at first signs of any text on your screen before it actually boots up you may hit the "Pause - Break" button on the keyboard and try to get the on-screen messages to stop so you can read it and write it down.

This text on the screen should include/tell you what date and version your motherboard BIOS/Firmware model is. You can usually pause that with a few tries, and/or just hit CTRL+ALT+DEL right then (after pause and before Windows or Unix starts) to try again.

If that does not work hit the correct key to enter BIOS Setup (access long before Windows boots) and read all information about your system there in the BIOS screens (usually always has BIOS version date listed in there).

NOTE: Adding a new BIOS flash always calls for caution as if it fails or goes wrong for any reason mid-install you may not get the computer to work again.

Exact same problem

So, i have a laptop whos power supply was struck by lightning, and both the powersupply and the power house inside my laptop were fried. The sometimes on or off is because your Adapter is fried and giving random voltages, causing the computer to power off or overload. I would try getting a new adapter, but if the power part of the motherboard is fried, i would take it to a shop and have them diagnose it.
Good Luck

When I turn on my computer nothing happens but the light flashes?

A lightening strike!!!!!! The power surge from a strike could have blown the computer's motherboard and processor. Did you have any surge protection and was the computer on at the time? chances are the computers fried.
There is one last thing you can do, that is remove the side panel from the desktop so you can see the motherboard, you will see a battery like this >>ecb2000.jpg. Near to the battery you will see a plastic "jumper" this will reset the cmos if you move it to the other position, turn the pc on, if nothing happens the cmos has been cleared, put the jumper back in its original position and start the computer again, if you still get nothing them some if not all the components inside the computer has been fried.

Good luck

Motherboard destroyed by lightning

I'm located in New Zealand and purchased a motherboard for my T135 from www.trademe.co.nz. Possibly www.ebay.com and other trading sites could be helpfull.

If its any help the motherboard I purchased was a Winfast core series 760GXK8MC-RS. That supports an AMD Socket 754 cpu.

It seems to have done the trick but by the looks of it after replacing the motherboard I will have to install a new operating system as the orignal Windows XP was an OEM version (which means that it was pre-installed on the hard drive) and the recovery discs won't work with the new motherboard installed.
