It is possible that the low voltage wiring that controls your central vacuum has been damaged during the cable work. You can check to see if the low voltage relay is working by shorting the two terminals together at the unit. Just disconnect the two small (18-22 gauge) wires from the unit and short across the terminals where the wires connect. If the unit comes on, the vacuum is fine, and it is most likely the low voltage control wires that have been damaged. It should be a pretty easy fix, if you can get to where the wires are located. They are probably just pulled apart at a joint. Good Luck!!

I have the Hoover U6485900 and the brush rollers keep spinning even when the vacuum is in the upright position. I have replaced both belts hoping that would fix it. Help!

depending on your exact model this is supposed to happen even when it is up right since the vac motor does two things besides just sucking up dirt but in order to prove that i would need some photos (photobucket links or any other imaging online service is welcome to be used to see the exact model vac it is) now if it has like a two stage mode switch in this model it could be that the two stage switch is a lil bad but i have seen where people have done mini mods to save cash and sort of make their own sorta two stage switch with two switches and a bypass to just run the main motor for sucking up dirt

It sounds like you may have a bad hose. Plug the hose into the wall but rotate it 90 degrees from the normal position. This will bypass the switch on the hose. If you look at the wall end of your hose, you will see a metal band around it. That metal band is split into two sections. You are trying to plug in the hose so that the separation of the two pieces of metal is not lining up at the top of your inlet. If your vacuum turns on then you have a bad hose. It is possible that you have a bad switch in the hose, but it is more likely that you have a bad hose.

If your vacuum does not turn on, then you may have a break in your low voltage wire somewhere. You can check to make sure it didn't get disconnected at the unit. If the wire is connected then try to cross the low voltage wire from the relay at the unit with a small screw driver. If the unit does not turn on you have a bad relay.

If it is the relay, AirVac does not provide them. You would need to consider buying a new unit.

Have you checked the hose for clogs or leaks. Clogged and leaky hoses are an area of concern with any central vac. Unless you hose has a hose sock, then wear and tear from constant rubbing on floors and other surfaces will result in holes and cracks. Pulling the hose can also result in leaks where the hose attaches to the handle and intake connector.
Mix some dish soap with water.
Use shop vac to blow air through hose, with other end capped or "clogged".
Apply soap solution to each end of hose.
If bubbles form, this indicates leakage. Hose will need to be replaced.

I have two Electrolux Central Vacs. One is not working. Is there a reset button

If this is a CENTRALUX metal bodied 1590 series vac vac there is a reset breaker on the side of the motor housing of the vac. Depending on the age of the vac there is also a filter lockout switch . If you are using a cartridge filter and it is misaligned and drops down the switch will shut the vac off to prevent motor damage. Check those two items. The internal filter must be fully inserted so its twist lock/washer device can rotate holding it up in place. Then take a pair of insulated pliers and short across the low voltage terminals where the wiring system enters the top of the vac . If the vac starts, it is fine. If not your problem lies in the motor , the relay or the filter lockout switch.
If you have a plastic bodied Electrolux, a recent model the test procedure is the same but there is not the same lockout for the filter

Next test the nearest inlet in the house. If it fails to start you have a break in your internal wiring, possibly at a connection or a an inlet which may have a loose wire connection behind the wall. Post back with your results and if you have more questions. If so post the model #

Central Vac will not turn on.

These problems are nearly exclusively caused by a bad circut board and replacing it is the fix. Bad boards can cause many different effects so its nearly impossible to be sure. The 9v signal wire is not enough to short out an entire unit so it is unlikely the hose. If it is a direct connect system and you are pulling power from the 110 somehow that would cause main unit problems but that is unlikely at best. Sounds like a failed board to me.

Best of Luck

NuTone Central vac won't turn off

If the central vacuum tank will not turn OFF even with the switch in the “OFF” position, then the low-voltage wires should be disconnected from the tank. If the tank continues to run and still will not turn off, then most likely the relay inside is defective (but it could be a defective and/or shorted ON/OFF switch). If with the low-voltage wires disconnected the tank is able to then be turned off with the switch, then there is a short in the low-voltage wires or a hose is plugged into an inlet somewhere. ~ TTURAMBAR

Central Vac does not shut off

Sounds like the relay that is in the central vac unit is stuck to the ON position. When you plug it back in..does it start right up ? If so.. You should be able to disconnect all the receptacle feeds to the central vac unit at the central vac unit to determine which one ( if any) is calling for the vac to stay on.. if none are.. then it is internal to the vac and may be a stuck relay... Hope that gives you some ideas to check...

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Even though the belt looks fine it does stretch out and then it will not spin the brushroll @ the speed it is supposed to spin, there are 2 or 3 things to check. #1. The brushroll has be turning or spinning freely without the belt being on the unit. #2. The motor pulley has to be spinning freely as well #3. The belt needs to be changed every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and to store the extras belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. I am not sure what the brand name of the central vac is, and maybe next time you can include the brand name and model #.

Thanks, Don the Vac Man

I have a 3 year old NuTone CV 353W central vac system and recently the switch on the hose handle does not turn the system on from any outlet in the house. I have to plug the hose into the outlet and then turn the unit on from the switch on the canister. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are a couple of things that come to mind, 1st. you may have a bad switch in the hose and in most cases that can be repaired – if not you would have to purchase a new vacuum hose. 2nd. You may have a bad inlet valve in your hose and most of them are low volt of which would only cost less than $10.00 and can be replaced yourself unless you have what they call a SuperValve of which has 2 low volt wires and then it is wired to your home electricity and that should be replaced by an licensed electrician. It is a low volt and high volt inlet.

#3. the last thing you may check id that you may have a bad relay in the canister itself. Because you should be able to turn on the Central Vac with the switch on the hose and everything should work just fine . feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area of call the Nutone Factory cust serv line for further assistance. Central vacuum not sucking

Usually when there is no suction, and the main unit is running, then either the hose or somewhere in the piping there is a clog. If you move the hose to another location, is there suction? If not then the hose is clogged. You can unhook the pipe at the unit, flip the switch to manual, if it comes on and there is suction there, then there is a clog in the piping, If in the piping, tear up small strips of paper and mark them by number and insert one in each inlet, run the unit on manual to suck them up, and which ever numbered strip isn't there in the bucket, then that is the inlet that is clogged.
